I heard today morning that sowmya got coveted yogam narasimhan.
The vidwan who did not sing the taanam got the Ragam taanam pallavi award - Abhishek Raghuram
I see another post where sanjay has got outstanding vocalist
Can I know in senior category who got the best vocal team concert
Who got the best violinist , best mrudangist, outstanding lady vocalist
====
Similiarly also the list for sub senior and junior artist please - no idea there?
Congratulations to few that I know and the remaining that I would soon know

Yes, Sowmya received the Yogam Nagaswami prize for Best Sr Vocal
Other senior endowments were divided between Sanjay & Savita Narasimhan. I believe Malladi Bros won Best Concert & Abhishek Best Pallavi
Sub senior: Ramakrishnan Murthy, Sandeep Narayan
Junior: Sriranjani (Best vocal), Aishwarya Vidya Raghunath (Best concert)

Ok with photos and few posts above
Yogam Nagaswamy - Sowmya
Best male outstanding - Sanjay
Best Female outstanding - Savita
Best concert as a team - malladi -embar kannan - TS - KVG (I cannnot spot TS sir )
Best RP not RTP - Abhishek
Did i spot right to say that next to RK Murthy is that S varadarajan - if so he must be best violinist
Who got Best mrudangam - ???
Best upapakkavadhyam - Giridhar UduppA
=========
In the sub senior
Apart from Ramakrishnan Murthy and Sandeep, I am also spotting Amrutha Venkatesh in the photo- I would like to know more granular details there in terms of who got what??
===
Junior
Aishwarya Vidhya Raghuath and Sriranjani santhagopalan
I see that ananhita and apoorva got an award - Looking in the MA schedule ,they were not initiall slotted , may be they came as a replacement for some other artist, may I know who that is.
===
I also spot veena vidwan B Kanann .
In the last row , lot of musicians are doing what the rasikas do in their concert, looking at the smart phone- Pay back time.
Congratulations to all musicians, looks the significant count of concerts of my attendance in MA has many awardees.

Your id being bhagavan, you have to tell us Sir. THe only thing I knew was when V subramaniam died few months back (disciple of SSI), where it was mentioned in the hindu post his death that he was one of the judges.hnbhagavan wrote:I attended the Music Academy concerts. Most of the times the front row had only a couple of occupants.Who are the judges deciding the nominations?

The judges don't necessarily sit in the front row. They sit in some inconspicuous location and listen to the concerts. Two judges for one time slot, meaning the same two judges listen and judge the 11:45am - 1:15pm slot concerts, for instance. They are senior vidwans and vidushis.hnbhagavan wrote:I attended the Music Academy concerts. Most of the times the front row had only a couple of occupants.Who are the judges deciding the nominations?

SOme time back NSG who sang in morning got the yogam nagaswamy award , till then I was thinking senior artist judgement is only restricted for evening slots. This logically means for evening I , II and morning there should be indeed rotation of judges as it is quite unlikely for any one or two judges to sit that long for a morning and two evenings on each day for 14 days.

Hello Mr Murali! Why doesn't the modern, tech-savy, Academy have the list of awardees on its website on the same or the next day? Obvious thing to do, and not much work... right?

Nick,
The fact that all the awardees assembled on the stage shows that the list was announced and intimated even before... Question: where? HARIMAU.... Please tell us.

Even if Shashank's New-Year-Morning concert is excluded, surely they cannot have made such decisions earlier than the previous evening without leaving out contenders.
I don't see why it should not be added to the website at start of office hours on the 2nd. Come to think of it... are these best-this-that-and-the-other awards ever published on their site? I don't remember seeing it --- but maybe I didn't look.

Just conjecturing from my side:
For sure 1st concert is excluded. From Dec 31st afternoon or evening onwards the awards are announced . If you look at schedule the last evening II on Dec 31st is a Hindustani concert and dec 31st afternoon is an instrument concert so those are not in list of nominees . So possibly evening I vocal concert of Dec 31st may be left out as nominee, not sure though - could be a case of inclusion too. Sachi from Dec 31st onwards each musician will be contacted so that in sadas they are present on 1st Jan.
NIck
If you buy the souvenir for 50 Rs you always get the list of previous year awardees.

I had the same question Nick asked. I don't think there is a practice of putting that info on their web site. Why not? Press does not carry the list of awardees, do they?
This all goes with the lack of coverage of what happens at the sadas. If any of our members had an opportunity to be there, please write a detailed account of the proceedings.

I think someone posted a write up last year or the year before? I have never been to the event. it's "all over," except for lunch, for me, when Shashank's concert finishes. Perhaps I'll change that next year. I really do support some of those youngsters, and it would be nice to see them getting their awards.
But it is a long time to wait!
Thanks! Had never thought of doing that! <Blush>If you buy the souvenir for 50 Rs you always get the list of previous year awardees.

The souvenir carries the list for the previous year. The 2014 list may be put on the web after some time.Does the morning slot gets included for the award or only the evening ones are considered for senior category awards?O S T's morning concert was outstanding.

The previous incarnation of the website used to have the list of awards. I don't think morning performers are/should be considered. Imagine trying to judge RV, Nedunuri, RKS being graded against the younger performers.
I just saw a FB post that Giridhar Udupa having gotten the best upapakkavadyam award

GG/HNB
Morning artists are considered period, this year I see the photo of B Kannan a vainika who played in morning slot . As stated before, when NSG got yogam nagaswamy few years back that was the first time I knew morning slot is also considered .
Possibly they may not compare SK's of morning with other performers - not sure though. But this year one evening SK sudha ragunathan would have been surely considered in nomination list.
Tx for Giridhar udupa pointer , i saw the photo not 100% sure will reedit my previous post and add his name.
Others ,
Please add whoever is missed.

Yeah... SK's not being considered makes sense. Hope it is true though... I have been forever hoping Vijay Siva to get the Yogam Nagaswamy award but alas.....

I understand one of the judges is an erstwhile singer who is no more singing due to voice problems.

It's a bit hilarious that:
-We can only conjecture about the process
-We don't remember previous winners
-We cannot verify this year's winners list
-We get a souvenir after 12 months with the names.
Don't you think this could be one tradition (of inefficiency) that a rebel like TMK should go after and break!?

Music Academy has acquired a software that is supposed to choose the prize winner after all the judges submit their feedback with points.
This was over heard in the corridors of the Academy....a gentleman with a tag round his neck was mentioning so.

What does this software do, beyond tallying the scores and sorting them? The newspaper article seems to imply that there is some kind of artificial intelligence involved. #skeptical

VK: I am completely with you re: the skepticism. I think it is probably a weighted average that is used which doesn't require any more expert intelligence than a garden variety spreadsheet.

VK and Mahavishnu: Totally with you on this one. Further, I have this sneaky suspicion that the academy must have gotten conned out of several lakhs of rupees by some software company for creating this "sophisticated and advanced" software!!mahavishnu wrote:VK: I am completely with you re: the skepticism. I wonder who the "consultant" was for such a gig! It is raining snake oil.
That said, Pappu is a very smart man and a comprehensive scholar of sorts. I'm sure there is some distortion in the media about what he actually said about this "expert" algorithm.

You will be surprised what people mean by using computers or technology :
It could be adding the scores
It could be weighted averaging the scores
It could be predetermined substitutions of winner names
It could be based on preferred raga or alapana criteria
It could be a new computer purchased with funds

And certainly, a calculator was not involved
Seriously, each concert was listened to by a pair of seasoned musicians, which in the end is what really 'counts'...
