Just witnessed a great 30 min DD BHARATI concert - congrats to Chennai Kendra.

Lovely writeup that came up few days back in the Hindu. I knew that she was a student of kalpagam mami but never knew that she also picked from TRS. Looking forward to hear her.

I just heard that she is a student of not Just Kalpagam Mami and TRS. She has also learnt from Veenai Balachandar. I have only heard in CD. She is talented and I look forward to hear her in a live concert.

Good Catch I am wrong . Nirmala did not learn from SB. She has also learnt from amma of vidushi veenai gayathri. Here is her website.

"Nirmala Rajasekar began her training in Veena at age 6 in Chennai from well known practitioners such as Sri Deva Kottai Narayana Iyengar and Smt. Kamala Aswathama. After moving to Bangalore, she learned at the Gana Mandira School in Basavangudi Smt. G Chennama and Smt. E. P. Alamelu.


She began her career as a soloist at age 13. Later in Chennai, she was guided by the revered veena vidushi the late Smt.Kalpakam Swaminathan. Nirmala has trained with her for nearly 30 years.Her vocal Gurus are Sri B.Sitarama Sarma and Prof T.R. Subramanyam."

Nirmala despite being in windchill land of minnesota makes only brief visits to India . I find in general she is also good in PR and garners fairly regular writeups . She also plays veena with great azhuttam . The only live concert that i heard her was a brilliant devi neeye thunai in keeravani , in the writeup she has taken another lovely keeravani krithi.

Nice writeup of this vidushi Nirmala Rajasekar who is doing a great service being a resident of Minneota. I would have been happier if there is a mention somewhere that her guru is vidushi Kalpagam Swaminathan. Writeup in Dec 2019 that came in center page in The Hindu
