Re: G & A of Chennai Music Season 2014
It is difficult to pin point the gains and losses.Generally the music concerts were conducted in a systematic way - especially some of the renowned sabhas like Music Academy,Krishna Gana Sabha,Bramha Gana Sabha etc.The music Academy gets the first place - by all counts.I have coined ACT- meaning Accoustics,Canteen and Toilet index.A very well run system for Very senior,Sub Junior ,Junior and Senior slots perhaps covering most of the recognized Vidwans as well as upcoming vidwans. The tickets for the evening concerts being fairly priced where as other sabhas charged premium rates in case you rushed to the concerts in last minute. This is for those like me who did not have season tickets as my stay in Chennai was for a week only.
There was a smaller venue at Arkay Convention centre - Bramha Gana Sabha trust conducted the festival offering upcoming musicians a chance and a few seasoned performers.I was lucky to hear Vidwan G S Mani at this venue.
I was distressed to see smaller audience for some seasoned artists - like sri T V shankara Narayan and Sri Vijaya Siva. However the morning music concerts at Music Academy was well attended.
There were interesting lecdems at Academy and generally the mini hall was full. You might have read the detailed postings under Kutcheris.
In any system when a large festival as this is conducted, there will be many short comings. Some more publicity by the Sabhas regarding daily tickets availability, timings etc would help visitors from other places who are not familiar with Chennai.

HNBhagvan Sir,
Thanks for the report. My objective of this topic was to get feedback to assess the progress of Karnatic Music as an art form and also the personal experience based on the expectations-its fulfillment and non fulfillment.

Dear Sri Munirao,
Most of the leading sabhas featured upcoming artists. In Music academy, the junior slots of 1:30 hrs and 2:00 hrs, many promising youngsters performed well.Notable among the junior slot concerts -Sisters Archana and arathi
Aishwarya Vidya Raghunath performed exceptionally well.
Looks the only thing lacking may be number of Rasikas who are on decline.
The experience was definitely good particularly in the morning slots where very senior artists performed. In the evening slots Rasikas attend depending on their preferences.Back to Back concerts are scheduled. On Dec 24,2014 there was near full house for Sudha Raghunathan and the number declined significantly for Sri R Surya Prakash who in fact gave a good concert.
