While returning from Bangaluru to Chennai by the Sathabdhi Express I had the opportunity of listening
to the krithi " Thaye Yasoda " in the ragam Todi sung by late Sri MMI, Accompanied by the legend Late Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman on the violin and on the mrudangam by Sri VR.
In the first round of listening, I was trying to count the number times the word "Kalinil Chilambu konja" were sung.
However, the EXCELLENT VARIATIONS and the RAINBOW colours of the Todi sancharas have mesmerized me and
I stopped the counting and enjoyed the music of MMI twice before I reached Chennai.
Our forumite Sri Udaysankar had given a lecture-dem about this song for nearly one hour at the Ragasuda Hall two years ago [MMI remembrance day arranged by Sri VKV].
Sri Udaysankar, in his lecture demonstration about the "Thaye Yasodhe song" in Todi sung by MMI, bringing out
the very innovative rainbow colours of this Todi ragam with appropriate audio clips of the various segments
in singing the words " Kalinil Chilambu Konja". Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman accompanied him excellently and giving some leads for MMI to develop further. The mrudangam played by Sri VR was also excellent.
However Sri Udaysankar's lec-dem recording was not preserved for posterity's sake.
I have made a special request to Sri Udaysankar to recreate the lec-dem and upload in our website for all the Rasikas to enjoy the special treatment of the song by our legend MMI.
The drop box link of the song "Thaye Yasode " in TODI krithi sung by MMI is given below.

Enjoy the music.

Thank you sir. I think the violin is played by Vid TN Krishnan. His bowing is unmistakable. My opinion of course.

Yes!!Rsachi wrote:Thank you sir. I think the violin is played by Vid TN Krishnan
nageswharan sir, just dowloaded the recording and indeed Rsachi is correct. This is another concert with TNK.
The recording I talked about a few years ago in Raga Sudha Hall was a different one. That one is the Jamshedpur concert with LGJ, VR and Alangudi Ramachandran. It starts with Mohanam varnam, has Vasudevayani in Kalyani, Thaaye Yashoda in Todi and an RTP in Kamboji.
That said, the neravals in Kaalinil Silambu were quite similar to this, therefore you're not too off the mark

probably this is the one...for me it says parthasarathy swami temple concert in the 60s...thani in "nagumomu"

each of the musicians on the dias have complemented the other, to embellish the concert
the best imagination possible in the nereval @ kAlinil Chilambu by the inimitable MahavidwAn Madurai Mani Iyer responded equally well by Lalgudi sir and Vellore Ramabadran and Alangudi Ramachadran.
Vellore Ramabadran sir's accompaniment is a master class on how to accompany this piece, following the main artist like a shadow and also enhancing the impact of the same with his rhythmic patterns...absolute sublime accompaniment which transforms us to a different world.
blissful music in short

bombal, I'm pretty sure that this is from MMI's 1962 Academy concert with Lalgudi, Pazhani and Alangudi. I think this has been released as a commercial recording as well.bombal wrote:probably this is the one...for me it says parthasarathy swami temple concert in the 60s...thani in "nagumomu"

@ shripathi_g
it has been confirmed by trichy Sankaran sir that it is not Pazhani sir but instead Vellore sir, who has accompanied Sri MMI in the Thaye Yashoda..

@bomba, I stand corrected. I shall update my sources then. I need to develop a better ear for mridangam playing style and not rely on labels.
