Re: sIrvalarpa senthOgai mayilAl - kAvadi chindhu meaning
Thanks, PB and Pasupathy. These are most helpful.
Here is my translation. Indran, of you do need a word-by-word translation, pl indicate. I've only done a line at a time
shIrvaLar pashuntOgai mayilAn - He with a peacock with a beautiful, lush tail,
vaLLi shevvidazh alAdiniya teLLamudum ayilAn - (who) does not drink even Amrita, but only the red lips of Valli
pOrvaLar taDangai uRum ayiLan - (who) has a battle-hardy Vel (spear) in his broad/strong hand
vimala ponnaDiyai innalaRa unnudal sheivAmE - let us meditate on his pure, golden feet, such that our sorrows go

Re: sIrvalarpa senthOgai mayilAl - kAvadi chindhu meaning
(I am interchanging the first 2 lines so that the meaning can be read easily)
konji maruvum sarasa ranjida vi shEDA - O delightfully unique one, fondly embraced
kunjara vaNangu Aval vIDAdapaDi - with unceasing eagerness, by Deivanai (daughter of Airavata)!
painsharavaNam kAval vIDA - vaLarum bAlan - The youthful one whose fort is the verdant Sharavana tank
ena mAlaiyoDu kAlai ninaivAmE - so shall we meditate evenings and mornings

Rajani - beautiful as always...these cindus by Sri Reddiar are so complex, but you bring out the beauty in them!
One questions re dEvasEnA - wasn't she indra's daughter, who grew up with airAvata as her companion (hence, the names deivayAnai, dEvAnai, dEvakunjari, kunjari etc.)?

Re: sIrvalar pasunthOgai mayilAl - kAvadi chindhu meaning
Thanks a lot. I found another set of meaning too.
One who is seated on a peacock with a beautifully groomed youthful tail –
Except nectar of vaLLis’sweet lips, he does not drink anything else (ayil here means drink)
He also adorns the war-weathered spear his hands
His blemishless golden feet, to be rid of your difficulties, let’s think
(The exact meaning here is not clear; However, approximate meaning would be: Worshiping the elephant, for valli to come and embrace him, he did and using that trick he embraced vaLLi and he has that glory)
The forest of charavanA became his abode, where he grew up and that knowing that child think about him in the morning and the evening.
The strong asuras leaving their unsavory ways, fearing his warring abilty- to such skandas ways submit yourself
Not losing good senses, with only gyAna and paramAnda monA state, let’s attain
For the one tusked elephant faced (brother) to be happy, he had the gloriy as his celebrated younger brother
Including such elephant god and all other devas Praise the guga. Lets’ worship him

Re: sIrvalarpa senthOgai mayilAl - kAvadi chindhu meaning
Thanks Ravi. Deivanai was the foster daughter of Airavata, hence her name Kunjari etc.
Thanks Indran for the complete translation.
aNangu means beautiful girl. kunjara+ aNangu would become kunjaravaNangu. That seems a simpler and better interpretation than one who called the elephant to scare Valli etc.
