PROF V V SADAGOPAN'S CENTENARY

Post by arasi »

For those who are not aware of it, the thread about VVS in Vidwans and Vidushis has a lot of information about the events. I do not know how to bring them here. I am certain one of you is going to volunteer to bring the invitations here:)

His birthday was celebrated in Viravanallur (his native place) at the temple and at the school on the 29th of January.

This coming Sunday, on the 8th, several enthusiasts are holding seminars and programs at the Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan.

On the 9th of February, at Jalladiampettai, at the Sadagopan Patasala and Thiru Narayanan temple, a day long celebration will take place. His devoted student Sriram Bharathi was their founder. He carried out his guru's mission, and after his demise, his wife Sowbhagyalakshmi carries on the work with unflagging devotion and care.

On the 10th, family and friends celebrate him at Ragasudha Hall, starting from 4 Pm.

The latest I hear is that on Sunday the 8th, Chennai A channel is airing a recorded concert of his from 8-45 to 9-45 AM.

Waiting for someone to upload the invites here. Thanks in advance!

IT IS EXCITING THAT VV SADAGOPAN IS BEING FINALLY RECOGNISED. On the day I left for BOMBAY mail enroute to USA IN 1959 I SAW 2 MOVIES IN Gaiety Talkies in Mount Road (Matinees) one starring VVS& PAPANASAM SIVAN & THE OTHER starring M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar- his last movie Raja Mukthi-
That & the many concerts of VVS I have heard at Parthasarathy Sabha inHindu High School are still my FAVOURITE memories of Madras!...........
Incidentally there is another VVS CLEVELAND V.V.SUNDARAM who has risen to great heights with his contributions. Is it Veeravanallur or the SPECIAL THAMBARA BHARANI WATER RESPONSIBLE?! May be we can have a proper statistical survey done by our expert RSachi...VKV

Thanks, kokilam (or chicadee in the snow)!

VKV,
The two VVSs coming from Viravanallur being unique individuals is understood. In my case, it didn't work out that way, though I have both my grandfathers coming from that place. Too much of a good thing? :(

By the way, wherever you come from (tamravarNi again?), your clout in science and that passion for music, where do they come from? Please continue your recollections in the other thread on a regular basis...

Ravi,
I'll do my best, and we have one for the 10th event. I will request other organizers to make theirs available to us. Meanwhile, I request our AIR enthusiasts, Ganeshkanth, CRama and others to make that AIR concert available for us. Can't wait to hear it. Hope and hope it isn't the one from Tirunelveli radio which is making its rounds. Hope it goes back to his glorious voice period in the forties. Hope they will unearth more concerts of his and of others for us to enjoy...

ARE YOU KIDDING? ONE COMPOSITION OF ARASI ESP. THE MUSICALITY & PASSION MORE THAN QUALIFIES YOU & PROBABLY PROVES THERE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT VEERAVANALLUR!.....
Supposedly I am from Vriddhachalam where I took my son some years back & found RED CHILIES all over the place! Manimuthar river was totally dry! Fortunately the lignite from nearby Neyveli hopefully did not affect me but Santhanagopalan, Narayanan among others may be proving its a good thing! VKV

Arasi,

I am waiting eagerly for the video of mama's centennery. Feel bad that I couldn't be there. Maybe I am the only one of the close family members to miss it. Even if I am here, my mind will be in Chennai with all of you and will be thinking about mama. Please get me a copy of the Family celebrations.

Maduraimini,
You are so often in my thoughts and I will miss you big time in Chennai :(
You won't be the only one. It looks as if there are going to be a few other absentees.
Still, the way folks I didn't even know (until I arrived in India), seem to be so keen on celebrating his hundredth that their enthusiasm and work warms my heart.

Yes, wish you were here...

Will try and bring as much as we can, to share with you and others :)
