Thanks Sindhu. Got 36. Not good. Kicked myself for not getting another 10 or so that I should have gotten easily.

Dear Vasanthakokilam,
I got 63 on 72! Was more or less stumped by the 'Murali' ragas. Feels so good am going to treat myself to a nice cup of coffee.
Many thanks for this cerebral treat.

Re: Raaga Identification Test
I continue to be amazed by Varmaji's exploratory nature. While a vast majority of musicians remain contant with
Koteeswara Iyer's 72 Melakartas, Varma ji goes and studies all 72 from his guru Dr.Balamuralikrishna and now unearths
this totally different kind of treasure in the form of Batish! I couldn't find Ganamurty, but found this haunting Manavati online.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgklBdphZY0
A friend of mine sent me what he described as a Power Packed Performance by Power Star Pawan Kalyan today.
A catchy Telugu folk song by relatively unknown composer Etla Ramadasa
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbFPxFs0jI4
only to find that Varmaji had taught the complete song at Perla, years ago!

Re: Raaga Identification Test
That tops the top score at the music department.
Congratulations!
You could have won one of Varmaji's prized chickens too

I feel like writing some comments of appreciation,
but they would all reveal the answers to the questions
Best to watch the video and enjoy, I guess.

Re: Raaga Identification Test
I must say my knowledge of Malayalam is poor, and I was multitasking a bit as I had to factory reset my phone and do software repair etc in a depsrate mode. If I had heard the questions better, and answered with care, I would have scored at least 2 more points.
If I did win the prize, I would have preferred something like coconut barfi to chicken (I just returned after 15 days survival camp from the Nonveg land called Kerala
)
I congratulate Varma-ji for his indefatiguable dedication to teaching and entertaining audiences.
His Lit-fest interview with TVG was done by him with the usual panache. He did mention that navarasas don't include Bhakti rasa, the primary theme of Carnatic music. There are reasons for it. However for that I need to meet and discuss with him separately. "Bhakti rasa" nomenclature is not based on the same idea of Bharata's Nava rasas.

Re: Raaga Identification Test
Amazing test! So painstakingly complied and with so many different
artists, different languages and different systems of music covered!
Though Varmaji always maintains a light hearted and friendly demeanour,
so many of the questions and their answers open up so many windows to
the aspiring music student and the serious music lover, especially with
technology like youtube available to all of us now. I have been searching
for a recording of the behag javali Samayamide, sung by the person who
has sung Krishna Nee Begane Baro in the test. I would be much obliged if
somebody could post the link here. Thank you.

It was also quite satisfying to realize how much these young people know about CM of the past.
