CLEVELAND THYAGARAJA FESTIVAL---------PART 2

IN THIS SEGMANT WE BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THE NOVEL APPROACHES WE ARE TAKING IN HONOURING THE MEMORY AND MUSIC OF FOUR OF THE GIANTS OF CARNATIC MUSIC. THERE WILL BE SPECIAL SYMPOSIA WITH TWO MEMBERS - V.K.V. & V.V.S. BEING THE MEMBERS BEING CHOSEN BECAUSE OF KNOWING THE PERSON INVOLVED & HIS CONNECTION TO THE FESTIVAL- who are NOT music experts & a very close disciple or expert being the third person. Typically the expert will either describe and/or demonstrate the unique contributions. In addition before certain SPECIFIC CONCERTS VKV will speak for about 5 minutes describing hopefully RELEVENT ASPECTS ABOUT THE PERSON FOR WHOM THE SYMPOSIUM IS BEING HELD. The idea is that in this fashion a MORE complete PICTURE WILL EMERGE.
The FOUR PERSONS INVOLVED ARE : Papanasam Sivan, M.S.Gopalakrishnan (MSG), T.R.Subramabnian (TRS), and Mandolin Srinivas.
In the case of Mandolin Srinivas while no formal symposium will be held- we still have to absorb the shock of his passing away- INDIVIDUAL ARTISTES (IF
THEY CHOOSE) WILL SAY A FEW WORDS ETC. As every one known MANY OF HIS MOST MEMORABLE CONCERTS WERE HELD IN THIS VERY AUDITORIUM. VKV

PAPANASAM SIVAN:
THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF SIVAN ENCOMPASS SO MANY DIFFERENT AREAS & ASPECTS I intend talking to every one of the major artists & address the special aspects of the compositions they intend performing & choose to give the 5 minute talk depending on the relevency & special aspects. Having Asok Ramani will help me in this also as some time back we both collaborated and brought out a cd-rom which was critically acclaimed. Asok Ramani himself will conduct over 100 of his students in concert of SIVAN Compositions in a special presentation. Also in Sustaining Sampradhaya some of Sivan's compositions will be rendered. Finally Asok Ramani will give a special concert himself.
M.S.G.: The symposium will explain the greatness of MSG
and DR.M.Narmadha (HIS PRINCIPAL DISCIPLE & DAUGHTER)will explain the Parur-M.S.G' UNIQUE APPROACH& TECHNIQUES & DEMOSTRATE THEM. In the sustaining Sampradaya presentation msg's favourite like NALINA KANTHI will be rendered. DR.M.N. will also separately give a solo violin concert as her TRIBUTE TO M.S.G.
TRS: The symposium will explore the music as well as his contributions and his very intmate connection with Cleveland Aradhana from its earliest days. Musicians (some) are explained to perform some of his specialities & VKV will point these out in his 5minute explanatory talks.
