NAVNEETH KRISHNAN AT MAHALINGAPURAM AYYAPPAN TEMPLE

Post by CRama »

Navneeth Krishnan, disciple of Radha Viswanathan and Padma Narayanaswamy and an upcoming musician presented a short concert of one and half hours in the above temple premises on 28/2/15. He was accompanied by C.V.Badarinath on the violin and M.S.Varadan on the Mridangam. List of songs.

Vathapi-Hamsadhwani - (S)
Ongi ulagalantha- Arabhi-Thiruppavai
Thyagaraja yoga vaibhavam- Anandabhairavi (R)
Paramapurusham-Lalithapanchamam
Nidhichala sukhama- Kalyani (R,N,S)
Thiruppavai-Ragamalika
Bhujagasayino –Mangalam.

Navneeth is my close friend since long time. A very focussed vidwan and follower of KVN bani as is evident in the song list itself- a typical KVN list. Navneeth had his initial training in Music from Sri Vamanan of Mumbai and later relocated to Chennai to advance his musical career under Radha Viswanathan and after Radha Mami left to Bangalore, is pursuing music under Padma Narayanaswamy. He has completed MA in music with distinction. He is endowed with a voice that has got good throw and range. He has blossomed into a consummate musician which was evident throughout the concert. The alapanas of Anandabhairavi and Kalyani were elaborate along time tested sancharas rendered in a telling manner. Kritis were rendered in the appropriate kalapramanam. The swaras at Hamsadhwani and Kalyani were ample evidence to his manodharmam. Neraval at Sumathi Thyagaraju in Nidhichalasukhama was refreshing from the Mamatabandhanayutha, normally heard from many of the vidwans.

The atmosphere in the temple was divine and his music laced with sowkhyam was a match for the divinity in the temple. He could successfully give the effect of hearing a full concert in a short duration concert of one and half hours. That is the significance of the Ariyakudi-KVN Bani which is being discussed in other threads. There were many distractions though- quite natural to the temple. But many sat on the floor and heard the music with attention. At the end I could hear many appreciative voices about the concert. The accompanists also played well. Navneeth is of late giving concerts quite often. When you come across one, pl do attend. You will enjoy pure classical music.

I understand that all Saturdays there are concerts by young musicians. But never advertised. This I came to know from Navneeth. Otherwise I also would not have attended. I am not very regular in going to that temple also. IF I come to know I will inform.
The audience- I shouldl tell. There were distractions. In the front about 20 people were sitting. I cannot sit on the floor. My wife managed to get one chair for me. After the concert when I turned back, more than 50 people were sitting in various places on the floor and hearing the concert with rapt attention. After the concert, many people went upto Navneeth and appreciated his music.
During the festival, I think in Jan, daily there were concerts.
I regularly go to the Sivan temple, But I have not seen any concert there.
