I am delighted to inform all the Rasikas that CLEVELAND THYAGARAJA ARADHANA as usual with the INITIATIVE OF CLEVELAND V.V.SUNDARAM and his dedicated COMMITTEE and countless number of volunteers will be celebrating among other things the centenary of M.S. in the usual APPROPRIATE FASHION during next year's Festival. THE DATES FOR NEXT YEAR'S CLEVELAND FESTIVAL ARE: WEDNEDAY MARCH23 to SUNDAY APRIL 3RD,2016.
In addition there are PLANS to CELEBRATE the ACHEIVEMENTS of M.S. in VARIOUS AREAS in many parts of the WORLD. I will soon after this year's CLEVELAND FESTIVAL be writing more about the various current ideas & plans in this section. THE FAMILY OF M.S. & T.S. will also be heavily involved with MRS.Radha Viswanathan, Shrinivasan.Viswanathan and his daughter AISHWARYA participating in many events in India & abroad.
I will periodically be writing here about these. In the meanwhile WE feel M.S. BELONGS TO ALL OF US & WE WOULD LIKE THE PARTICIPATION OF EVERY ONE TO THE EXTENT POSSIBLE to make the entire 2016 to CELEBRATE M.S. & HER ACHEIVEMENTS that make every one of us PROUD to be an Indian. MSS Amma's values in celebration, in the events planned will be tribute and homage in true spirit. MSSAmma held values of 1.Humility, 2. In humanity and spirit of service and sacrifice, 3. Endless of pursuit of wealth of knowledge-knowledge of greatest/great compositions, 4. Purity and authenticity, 5.Perfection-Sruti and Laya, 6.Simplicity and Happiness, 7.Daasya bhavam to the Supreme and Divinity.
If performers also having imbibed some of these values, if not most of these values are given opportunity to perform, it will be truly a part of the celebration, spiritedly.

Ideating on the Centenary celebration, I am giving suggestion for the celebrations with program and concerts, as given below:
1. Lecture -'MY LIFE & TIMES WITH MOTHER'-by Vid.Dr.Radha Viswanathan assisted by Sri V.Srinivasan.

2. Lecture & Demonstration - ' GURU SMARANA' by Vid.Gowri Ramnarayan, reminiscences of MSS, her Guru and also Gurus of MSS.

3. 'BHARAT RATNA' -Reading of the Book on MSS, select excerpts from ‘Colossus of carnatic music’ compiled by Shankar Venkatraman; 'MS, a Life in Music by T.J.S.George;'MS Subbulakshmi Kunjamma' by Lakshmi Devanathan; 'MS & RADHA-saga of steadfast devotion' by Gowri Ramnarayan.

4. 'SAMPADA- a panel discussion on the contribution of MSS AMMA, Chaired & Moderated by Sri Pappu Venugopala Rao, a scholar; a musicologist;a musician; a teacher; a critic; a event manager; a student; a rasika.

5.VAADYA VEDA program and concert lead by Vid.Prof.VVS, Vid.VVRavi, Vid R.K.Sriramkumar, on Violin, accompanied by Vid.Sri T.K.Murthy and Vid.J.Vaidyanathan or Vid.B.C.Manjunath on Mridangam and Vid.Sri Vinayak Ram, on Ghatam, Vid.Selva Ganesh on Khanjari - All Great Maestros and Maestros, who had accompanied MSSAmma.

6.HOMAGE & TRIBUTES-series of concerts by select Vidushees; Thematic- Vaggeyakara Vaibhavam of MSS-Annamacharya; Purandara Dasa & other Dasas; Shyama Sastri; Thyagaraja; Mudduswami Deekshita;Others-Badhrachala Ramadasu, Mysuru Vasudevacharya etc.; concerts beginning with Varnas sung by MSS Amma.

7.DAYA & DANA OR CAUSE- series of fund raising concerts by Vid.Dr.BMK; Vid Dr.KJY; Vid.Sudha Raghunath; Vid.Aruna Sairam;Vid.Bombay Jayashree; Vid.Sanjay Subramanian; Vid.TMK; Vid.Abhishek Raghuram. Funds raised to be given to 'Suswara Lakshmi Foundation', with Trustee Dr.Radha Viswanathan and others, for conducting annual events, in future.

8.AKAASHVANI-Playing selected excepts of recordings of AIR archival and reminiscences by Sri S.Krishnamoorthy, Retd.Station Director (grandson of Mysuru Vasudevacharya) and by Sr iDr. N.S.Krishnamurthy, Retd. Station Director. Also release of a CD from archival, not released earlier.

9.KEERTHI- A series of concerts of select Vidwans and Vidushees, at the venues and cities in overseas, where MSSAmma had performed.

10.DRUSHYA- A Dance program depicting significant episodes in the life of MSSAmma.

11.INSPIRATION- A program and concert conceived and conducted by Ms.Aishwarya Srinivasan with the participation of select young students and performers, preferably max.16 years in age, performing the compositions made popular and inspirational to these exceptionally talented artists.

Dear Forumites:Great Initiative by VKV,VVS and their cohorts. I have been "charged" with the task of contributing to the proposed book to commemorate the Life of a Great Human being . It is a daunting task--what can one write about the Great MS Amma that has not been written before. Yet I deem it a privilege recalling memories and sharing them with the rest of the World.

Some suggestions have been made to me to extract my "posts" in this forum and suitably "edit" them for a larger audience. I will abide by those suggestions.

My own thoughts:
1. There are so many facets to MSAMMA --far beyond her Musical contributions--so many qualities--genuine humility,tremendous forbearance of others' transgressions against her,poise under the most trying circumstances and a host of qualities the description of which would belie belief unless one has been close enough throughout her illustrious life.It is incumbent on those of us--I include the vast Rasikas members--who all may have had glimpses of these qualities in their own personal interactions --- to contribute to this "book".
HENCE I REQUEST FORUMITES TO SEND ME ANECDOTES THAT THEY EXPERIENCED THAT WOULD UNDERSCORE MY OWN INSIGHTS. I WILL 'WEAVE' THEM INTO MY NARRATIVE(WITH DUE ATTRIBUTION TO THE CONTRIBUTOR OR PRESERVE ANONYMITY IF SO DESIRED!!). You may send them to my e-mail id: [email protected]

What I hope to bring out is that it is not one person's(MKR's--perhaps "biased" because of proximity to the subject) reflection of her great qualities but that it is also the perception of EVERYONE who ever came into contact with MSAMma.
2. It is also my intention to reflect on the various members of the household who all were part of the Great Saga who all made sacrifices for the Great Cultural Pole Star to shine !!! The various abodes they lived in had their own "tales" to tell. Looking back I am struck by the fact that it (KALKI GARDENS) had all the trappings of a Palace with the retinue of "help"--their(help) amazing resilience to adapt to the incessant demands on their own lives and families and how MSAMMA conducted herself as the Matriarch of the Household juggling "hosting" dignitaries and yet
showed remarkable empathy towards every member of the household!!. Ofcourse TS Mama set the tone. My narrative will cover TS Mama's qualities that truly "catapulted" what otherwise would have been a mere Artists's(gifted though) life.
3.I am overwhelmed by the task that demands a prudent "mix" of discretion and candor. It is my intention(CIENU Note you and your Mom are going to be the arbiters!!!) to strike a balance as much as I can!!!
I welcome suggestions from the members of this forum as to how I should go about this mammoth task.
