yesterday fm- gold concert had amrutha murali's MA concert excerpts.the first one looked like tarangini.some one may clarify.her sankarAbharaNam main was good.she sang all the phrases with minute gamakams.IMO here and there if gamakamless phrases are also sung would sound better.

yesterday night in national prog.mAlA chandrasekhar/akkarai subha/kallidai siva gave a nice concert.the submain mOhanam-dayaranee and main bhajareremanasa in kar.dEva.gAn.was good.akkarai excelled throughout.on jan 1st heard her play for shashank in MA which was a treat.a good concert.

suryaprakAsh's MA concert kApi RTP was broadcast today evening in FM - gold.it was sort of o.k.

yesterday night fm-gold broadcast ,bharat sundar sang an amazing rishabhapriya.gananayadesikane rendered well.parur ananthakrishnan gave a fitting reply.

Today madras A broadcast - sanjay's MA concert.kEdAram & sriranjani were nice to hear.SV's replies were awesome.
Neyveli venkatesh & venkataramanan played beautifully.

On friday night madras-A broadcast listened to a RTP concert of sreeranjani SG.the offbeat kannadA was taken by her and I should say she did justice.she also sang a couple of songs in this concert.But the RTP was the main.she sang tungatheeravirAjam in rAgamalikai.I heard the same sung by carnatica bros.today in jaya t.v.which has Ahirbhairav next to sAlagabhairavi.

Today morning 9AM, there was the veena concert of Iyer Brothers. I missed their concert during the season. Today's concert started with Angarakam asrayami in Suruti and continued with Sree Balasubramanya in Bilahari with alapana and swarams. As they are famous for, they played with pleasing melody with the correct mix of dexterity and bhavam. They stick to tradition and patantharam as popularised by KSN/Trivandrum R.Venkatraman who is their Guru. Always a pleasure to hear their concerts. Today I had to leave for office . So I could not hear it fully.

Rahul's father here. Im an active follower of rasikas.org, however, I dont post. Rahul is an A grade artist of the All India Radio. He shifted base from Mumbai to Chennai 3 years back. He learnt under Smt. T.R Balamani when in MUmbai. He has also learnt from Smt. Suguna Varadhachari for just over a year, when he was in Chennai. He is now in the US (Columbus, Ohio) for the past 1 and half years. Thanks for the nice words ganeshkant.

How nice to listen to neelAmbhari(tirupuhazh) now !chitravinA concert going on.let me listen to the announcement.it was P.ganesh acccompaied by VVSrinivAsa rao and pAlghAt harinarayaNaN.I had a doubt whether that could be N.ravikiran ! fantastic playing by PG.the sub main dwijAvanti (rAmachandrudu (?) adi tisra naDai ,annamAchAryA) sounded v.g.the main was poorvikalyANi - a oothukADu kriti.good support by accompanists.

P.Ganesh is an excellent Chitravina artist - may be in the same league of Ravikiran. But he do not play Chitravina often. He is more busy as part of Carnatic Brothers.

Yesterday Dr.PrEmA rengarAjan sang unDEdi rAmudu with N & S as a starter for her madras-A concert followed by a lovely darmavati followed by a mysore composer song.as i had to leave home couldn't hear fully.it was very.

Today VVS/murAri/UKS gave a fantastic concert.gowrimanOhari,vasantA(rAmachandram),bhagAyanayya(main,T) and a lovely malayamArutam AlAp followed by manasayetulO.

Yes,CRama.PG may not give as many ChiravinA concerts as his vocals but he is a rare musician who can ride on 2 horses successfully.he should be given more chances for his instrumental thats all.

Yesterday at 8.30 Am, Prof Vishweshwaran of Mysore gave an impressive VeeNa concert on FM Amrithavarshini, Bangalore.

He played venkaTamakhi's srIrangaprabandham in bauLi, which I heard him sing as well as play. He is one of few artisites who sings/plays the older prabandhas and geetas in concerts.

He went on to play a memorable ranjani, durmArgacaradhamulanu in the best kAlapramANa, suited for the piteous rebuke in the song.

He then played his own composition vyOmakeshi cArukEshi, in the rAga cArukEshi; followed by a sindhubhairavi song. The subtlety of his long mEETu-less phrases, and the emphasis on gAyaki were very classy.

TVG has uploaded this concert in sangeethapriya.

Just heard the concert of Rama Ravi in Chennai Radio. Excellent concert. Looks like excerpts from a bigger concert. It started with the sub main Sree Sathyanarayanam- with elaborate alapana and swarams. Kripajoochudaku and Ninne nammi nanu with brief neraval at Kanna thalli followed. After the thani, Samayamide(Behag), Bhaja bhaja manasa raghavendram and a slokam followed. She could have utilised that time to sing a padam- that is what people expect from her.

Just listened the sweet flute recital of young vidwan JB Srutisagar in FM Gold. I heard Maaramanan, Sarasamukhi, Eti janma(Main) with very good alapana, neraval and swarams at Saatilenimata. I have heard this vidwan earlier also. Never fails to impress with his vidwath and sweet melody. He is getting plenty of opportunities and he also plays with his sister JB Keerthana-vocal. He is definitely to go very high in his career.

Yesterday night in NP, there was the vg concert of Seetha rajan. But the relay was a total mess. The concert started at 9.35. after a jalatarangam for 5 minutes. Good start with Lambodaram avalmbe-Kambodi. Submain Marvere (Shanmugapriya) was well presented with neraval and swarams at Sannutanga sree. Main song was Atiki sukhamu- a favourite of DKP and Nithyasree. But the relay was intercepted many times- the alapana relayed for the second time ,and spoilt a lot. This once again shows the negligence by the AIR Delhi, who relays the programmes. A very good concert which is expected to be heard all through the country has been marred because of the negligence of the staff of AIR, Delhi. The concert should be re broad cast in the NP.

I too enjoyed the concert of ramA ravi.

Friday night concert of madurai R.sundar was v.good.the sub min was the less heard brindAvanalOla in tOdi of T and the main meenAkshimEmudamdEhi with N&S @ madhumadamOdita was well done.good accompaniment by VLK & RR.

Today's concert of shashAnk with MAS and RR was good too.nee bhakti bhAgyasutA with long round of svarams and the main was shankarAbharaNam - manasusVadeenamaina.a caressing AlAp very nice to hear.

Chennai A broadcast a concert of V V Sadagopan today in the Sunday morning 'Isaipettagam' programme to mark the birth Centenary year of the great Vidwan. The kritis were Goudamalhar(Saraasamukhi), Anandabhairavi(Maanasaguruguha), Saveri(Durusuga) and an own composition in Kaanada.
Viiolin: lalgudi & Mridangam Vellore Ramahadran.

Today Morning, there was the good concert of Unnikrishnan. He started with Gajananayutham, Siva siva enarada, then Brindavanalola-Thodi of Thyagaraja and the main was Kaakka unakkirakkam illaya in KHP. The concert was very good except that the beginning phrases of Thodi suggested Hindolam.

Today morning, the concert of Gayathri Venkatraghavan was very enjoyable- all tamil kritis- a prelude to the Sivarathri Music festival. Started with Ganapathi thalai- Natai of Subramania Bharathi, Andavane in Shanmugapriya, Orarumugane- Reethigowla of Neelakanta Sivan and Kana kannkoti vendum Main.

Last Sivarathri, there were many webcasts. This year, Parivadini being not very active in Chennai, webcasts seems to be very remote possibility.

Yesterday 9.30 p.m madras-A,the mandolin concert of U.rAjEsh accompanied by VVSrao and KAP was satisfactory.abhOgi varnam,vinAyakA ninuvinA,sub main chandrajyOti - bAgAyanayya and main kkpriya-pakkalaneelapadi were satisfactorily rendered.the svaram section of the sub main was very engaging.the accompanists did a good job esp.KAP.

Today 8.45 a.m the vocal concert of bhArati rAmasubban accompanied by MAK and pApanAsam kumAr was good.there was a kriti in Anandabhairavi and bilahari the sub min -sribAlashbhramanyAya and main tOdi - dAsukOvalEna were rendered nicely.there were occasional slips though.mak's replies were good so as PK's playing .

Just heard the concert of Chidambaram S Jayaraman (CSJayaraman) in the Isaipettagam of AIR Madras A. A play back singer of 40s-50s. Remember his song in Sampoorna Ramayanam- Kaalayil paadum ragam. EXcellent FULL BENCH concert- All tamil songs- in the ragams Karaharapiya, Valaji and Kalyani. All unfamiliar songs. In the Kalyani song, there was a line Rangangal Maari maari- He sang this line in more than ten ragams- a mini neraval in each ragam.

Thank you , the earliest i heard of CS jayaraman was that song ka ka ka in parashakthi. Voice throw is great . The act of singing a neraval in quick succession in ragamaliga is very very rare- heard once or twice in live concerts . Requires extraordinary mastery and CSJ did that in ragangal maari maari, though not every raga that he sang was clean.Curiously the raga IN AIR was announced with the full name not short name kalyani, the announcer called with full name as mecha kalyani.

Yesterday in NP, there was the concert of Dr.RNSrilatha who belongs to the Rudrapatnam lineage. She sang Brihannayaki-Andhali, Emani ne mahima-Mukhari, Anandamaya maname-Jothiswaroopini (Main), a devarnama in Brindavanasaranga and Javali in Behag. A very good concert.

Today morning, V.Bharatkumar sang very well. We have already discussed about this upcoming musician- Son and disciple of Suguna Varadachary. Has also learnt from Sanjay. This week the concert starts at 9 AM only. I could hear only Jayajaya Padmanabha in Sarasangi and Paramakripasagari in Yadukulakambodi of GNB. He sang very well. I should hear more of his concert.

Yesterday night Madras A featured the concert of Bhairavi and Malavi. Started with Padmavathy Ramanam, RTP in Mukhari (Main piece), Bhooloka Kumari He Amritanari of Bharatiyar in Brindavani (TNS has tuned this in Amritavarshini), Thirupugazh, Slokam and Jagadeesa Pancha (Nadanamakriya). It was an excellent concert. Very rarely somebody chooses Mukhari for RTP and it was done full justice. The entire concert had an old world charm- pure carnatic music. I do not know who is their Guru. I have heard them in many radio programmes, but they are not seen in the front row of female musicians of today.

Today morning 9 AM in Podhigai TV, there was the flute of Anantaram from Andhra. Excellent concert with Brovabharama, Seshachalanayakam and Chetulara. Violin by Dwarm Satyanarayana lifted the concert considerably.

It would be nice if SOMEONE records these wonderful concerts. VVS used to do this but I suspect with all that is going on with Cleveland Festival ALL HIS EQUIPMENT & TIME I KNOW is occupied with thaat. Its nice to REVIEW what was presented BUT I fgeel its more Valuable to RECORD them for posterity. Unfortunately I am half a world away. VKV

Sri T V Gopalarishnan not only records them but uploads them to http://www.sangeethapriya.org.

This particular concert has already been uploaded by him on that website.

He also records and uploads videos of broadcasts by Podhigai-TV as well as other TV stations.

AIR Madras A broadcasts carnatic music regularly at 8.45 AM. Details given in one of the earlier posts. inthis thread. A couple of days back, there was the concert of Sanjay Subramaniam. I missed it.

Today morning there was the concert of Kunnakudi BMK. Of late, I have been observing problems in his voice and I felt sad at his voice problems at such an early age. But today, his voice was in good form and the concert was good. He sang Eera na pai varnam, Mamava Karunaya in Shanmugapriya Majanaki as Main.

Yesterday in Isaipettagam, there was the concert of Dr.SRamanathan with Lalgudi GJRK and Thanjore Ramadas. It has been repeated umpteen number of times. Why AIR do not have any other concert of this great master. Neverthless the concert is a classy one -Devagandhari (Samikisari of Walajapet), Kamalamba samrakshatumam, Sree Kumaranagaralaye and Evvarre Ramayya.

On Saturday night in the NP, there was the Veena concert of Bonala Sankara Prakash. I have heard him in Veena festivals and he had always impressed me. IN this concert it was Brovabharama, Dunmargachara Kalikiyunte,and BMK's gatibhedapriya thillana starting in Kalyani. It was an excellent concert.

Sanjay sang very well accompanied by Dr.Narmadha and maadhirimangalam Swaminathan.in fact his sahaana aalapanai was broadcast twice.last month raganatha sarma's concert was broadcast twice (a particular item)thanks to sleeping AIR.he sang an invocation song in gowlai,a kriti in sahana as submain,mohanam main narayana of PS and theerthakarayinile in bageshri ?.narmadha & madhirimangalam excelled.

Sunday - 22/03 madras - A isaipettagam ,Musiri's concert was excellent to tell the least.LGJ & Dr.TS made the concert memorable.todi,janaranjani and bhairavi,each a gem.

Smt.Alamelu Mani sang well accompanied by S.V.Ramachandran & Rajesh Srinivasan who did their jobs commendably.the sub main varali (maamava meenakshi) and main shankarabharanam (shankaracharyam) were rendered with a lot of bhavam and old world charm existed throughout.

Shreyas Narayanan's concert today morning was good accompanied by VVR/ASRanganathan he sang sowmithribhagyame in kharaharapriya as main.the sub main was jalandhara in valaji and mamava meenakshi in varali also can be told as sub main.he has a very manly voice.
