P.S: Not a complaint, a suggestion to organizers.
The organizers have to show mercy on old people coming to the concert.
There was only slush around the whole pandal yesterday. It was difficult to manuevre.
If some old people slip and fall it would have been disaster.

When you spend so much money (there is financial crunch this time, but i have seen it like this all the time)
on other things, please take care of the rasikas basic needs.

I think 9 was Madhura Kavi Azhwar's Kanninun sirutthambu. I may be wrong here. I will need to confirm.

What a brilliant concert it was! I for one think that Vijay Siva is in a league of his own...... This is what concerts should be - I just hope that we get to listen to him more often in Bangalore. If I have money only for one concert - I will go to Vijay Siva's. The whole team - especially Charumathi on the Violin and NC Bharadwaj (first time for me in a full concert) elevated the concert where I was on cloud 9 Sad that it was a rainy day with all the slush and I was lucky that I didn't fall... As I have mentioned in another thread - you can go late, get a good seating and listen to heavenly music without any chatter....the rasikas of Namma Ooru Bengaluru miss out on such ethereal music...sad...

Beautiful as SrI Vijay Siva's music is, ethereal somehow doesn't come to my mind...
But he certainly seems to be in a league of his own...pure music sans gimmicks or frills.
Were there any rAgamAlikA svaras sung during the RTP?

Sri SN Vardaraj is always present on the venue.It would be better to tell him about the problem.He will not be reading these postings i suppose.Additionally there is a facebook page of Sree Ramaseva mandali.You can post your observations.I agree with you - the ground was slippery irrespective of age.But i do not know what they can do for this.Perhaps the covering has to be extended.
The concert as you already mentioned was worth the trouble of braving the rain.I would like to mention that the organizers followed Vijaya Siva's wishes which he had expressed in the previous season.He suggested that he should not be praised and speeches to be avoided.However the organizers have to make sponsors happy and perhaps due to this there was a brief speech mentioning the artists names only.It was pointed out that Vijaya Siva supported the mandali in times of financial crunch.Perhaps he has charged less than usual.

Ethereal depends on the listener Seeing all the unnecessary gimmickry - for me pure music is indeed ethereal... as you have mentioned (rshankar). His neelambari and the pasuram were wonderful as was upacharamu. The pallavi was in Khanda nadai (Khanda jathi triputa I think). AFAIK there were no ragamalika swarams. will check my notes.

Post main pieces VS holds his own... he uses his voice so well - it is high pitched and he exploits it in a good way.

Since the regular speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekers were not there it was a VOT that lasted only 2 mins and "Ethereal " was for full 3 hours. Undoubtedly this was one of the best concerts that I heard in this season.

There were many free flowing bhesh bhesh moments during bhairavi swaras to top it all !

bhairavi (including swaras) was the highlight of the day. Rain earlier in the evening did not deter ardent art lovers to be present at the hall and there was almost ZERO exodus during tani !

@ranjanimalavi : I feel as hnbhagawan told , its better to voice your view to the organisers at the pendal than public voicing here. They do try their level best to address the required amenities to make the experience a very enjoyable one.


@rshankar: no rAgamAlika swaras.. There was a brief pause at the end of mOhana swaras (may be he was contemplating as it was till 21.00 and he had to fill 30 more mins with fillers). He must have decided to make it a pure mOhana presentation..

@badari @hnbhagawan - w/o digressing - Raman (@ranjanimalavi) raising it here is appropriate. In addition he can highlight it to the organizer. Who knows... some one who can make an impact may be reading the threads. It is a useful qualified feedback (note that he said not a complaint...) I too wondered when I saw many senior citizens and very senior citizens trying to make their way to/from the car.

No doubt .I agree with you.I mentioned that the organizers are accessible at the venue.In fact it was looking dangerous for persons of all ages.There is no harm in mentioning here.I will try to convey the point.

In the early 1970's when I was Bangalore, Rama Seva Mandali's Rama Navami concerts were held in the Chamarajapet High School compound and I had noticed dozens of rasikas sitting in the adjacent park and listening to concerts through the loud speakers provided for the purpose free of charge. I do not know the present venue of the concerts and the associated problems.
In my younger days in the forties and fifties, this UpachArmulanu in Bhairavi was offered more often than the UpachArmau jEsEvA. In recent decades the choice was reversed. I note that UpachAramulanu is back in frequent presentation.
Neraval is usually done in the first charaNam "kapata nAtaka sUtradArivai". Instaed neraval at "rAjanuta" ?

As a kid, I have heard concerts in Seshadripuram in the nearby park with loud speakers due to overflowing crowd. Chief culprit then was BMK followed by Yesudas.....

Kudos to SRSM for fixing it... just started raining two days back - need to recognize the good work too...BTW why is there a financial crunch this time. I saw a bunch of sponsor banners etc.

It was an excellent concert. Pristine music. I was very fortunate to have attended it.

Compared to earlier years,there is a reduction in the number of sponsors and the amount of grant cut down to 10 Lakhs from 20 Lakhs.There is an inflation element for putting up such a huge pandal which must be causing the funds crunch.The revenue from ticket sales is very less and in fact there is a strong case to increase the min ticket (season) from 250/ to at least 500/-.

That's sad to know... I saw Infy foundation and such support it...I wish someday they have the program in an enclosed auditorium even if it is a rental. It's not easy doing it year after year...

Just by going thro' the reports I can easily say it has been another excellent concert of VS. He is a model for concert planning, decorum and discipline.
