Went in to listen to a sabha concert. The power outage due to hail storm pushed the rasikAs into a huddle and a high spirited chamber concert ensued.
rasikAs were drained in the pristine music under utmost pristine atmosphere
except for a few uncultured ones who wanted to take shelter in the room until they were picked up by their near ones and in course disturbed the ambience, the concert per se was of the highest order. Without any electronic magnification of voices and tones, this stands out as one of the best concerts of this season..

Badari,
A one of a kind concert, indeed! And the picture in your blog is a perfect reflection of it.

6: Wonder which were the rAgamAlikA pAsurams...
Glad to see Vittalrangan playing more and more--a talented young violinist! I had heard him in Bengaluru, and also this season in Chennai playing for Sumitra Nitin. He's really very good.

Badari: Thanks. Love the picture of the concert. Such an intimate atmosphere. It is very hard to create the right acoustic balance without amplification and it takes a great amount of sensitivity to fulfill that role that all the said musicians seem to have achieved.
I'm sorry to hear about the people shuffling in and out disturbing the proceedings.
While all the Indian Carnatic stars seem to be in California, it is great to see the native Californian shine back in the homeland!

Mahavishnu, it was almost like a 22 hour flight for me and my aged friend who journeyed through traffic and rain from faraway Indiranagar to the venue only to see a thunderstorm drive the audience and artistes scampering to some shelters. But finally we had a blessed musical treat! I managed in that rain to buy a couple of candles to illuminate the room where we sat down to the music.

PS: I was even asked to garland the artistes. Badari may have taken a photo of that moment

Yes Ramana.
Ramakrishnan Murthy had carried his tambura all the way from Chennai and he was insistent it should be played. He was also most concerned about its getting wet during movement in that rain. Everything was done well in the end and Ramana played the tambura well too. The last few items were in madhyama Sruti and the tambura made its splendid presence known very well!
The only shining objects were people's eyes of delight, the flickering candles, and phones busy recording the concert
some phones displayed cassette tape icons in red and white and some had studio mic icons in blue.
