Two options: need continuous slogging (like even on deathbed) and extraordinary luck; and no slogging but exceptional luck.

Fame is a bee. (1788)
BY EMILY DICKINSON
Fame is a bee.
It has a song—
It has a sting—
Ah, too, it has a wing.
-----
Early in my career my boss gifted me a poster that' read
Great men have ideas
Lesser men make them explode
...
The least, get the triggers.
-------
I thought he was being discouraging .
Took me thirty years of working to understand the wisdom behind his idea.

Seniors do not deserve smurky/sarcastic comments and that is why seniors keep away from unwanted disputes

Sri VK Raman,
I understand you are referring to me. Please substantiate. I would appreciate a quotation from me, which shows a "smurky/sarcastic comment". If you show me one, I will apologize to CACM. In fact, I wrote him a FEW friendly and very respectful private emails explaining my request, assuring him of my regard BECAUSE he's a senior and pleaded with him to continue, but he remains intransigent.

So please do quote my words. As of now, I am mystified by yours.

Really? That is comforting to hear, Arasi! I thought I was the only one who seemed to have upset others! I think my view was colored by my email exchange.. Thanks for letting me know.

Ranganayaki,
let me tell you about the human skin. Eyes are the most sensitive, and so the creator has given us tears, eyelids, eye lashes, eye brows. All protective mechanisms to prevent them from getting hurt.
But the eyes get hurt but rarely, also because of their non-contact functioning.
On the other hand, feet and palms have strong muscular construction, with skin that is sensitive and yet tough. Where we have contact, often and with unknown items and situations, the creator has armed us with a thick skin.

That also applies in forums like this. There is absolutely no upside to reacting sensitively or personally to any words here unless and until you know that it is directed at you as a personal insult or insinuation. Add to this the fact that many people like me write a bit carelessly in terms of choice of words and sentence structures.

So all in all all is good I mean!

Rsachi,

Good advice, willingly accepted. I should have known it myself. In general I do know this and think correctly, but sometimes, I forget.
You gave it a thoughtful beginning! It brought a smile :). You made me feel like a five year old on my dad's lap. That's good! This is a lot like how he would advise me when I would indignantly come and tell him that one of my teachers would call me Aranganayaki.. I thought the teacher was negating all the good my name stood for and was saying I was not so good. (like Unranganayaki :) ) - this situation was like that too, with all the seniors seeming to say I am a naughty girl !! :)

Yes, Ahl ij vell :) of course.

You had started this thread with intention to provide space for VKV Sir to share his experience. Many others including myself chose not to post/discuss considering the intent. Since VVK Sir is not interested, I took the decision to post my observation and views.
1. Recognition: Recognition is of three folds in the meaning-first, acknowledgement of the existing; second, identification based on the experience, one’s own or others; third, action or process of recognition.
1.1. Acknowledgement of the existing: A. Parents promotion-Prodigy and genius. B.AIR grading. C. Guru’s public announcement. D. Registration with Sabhas. E. Participation and winning in competitions-AIR , Visual Media-TV and Sabhas. F. Participation in the group singing events-pancharatna etc.
1.2. Identification based on the experience: A. Self publicity and promotion, like arangetram, website etc. B. Opinion maker’s statement and endorsement. C. Reviews and Reports of accredited critics and correspondents of the popular news papers and magazines. D. Event manager’s publicity and promotion and performing opportunities. E. Prominent artist’s endorsement, mridangam artists in particular. F. Prominent patron/rasika (s) support.
1.3. Action or process of recognition: A. Getting concert/sponsored concert opportunities in Chennai music festival- December, in particular and other prestigious music festivals. B. Securing National/Govt.institutional scholarship C. Winning National Awards. D. Securing Overseas-University or Foundation scholarship, fellow ship and residency E. Securing a doctorate/honors, preferably US of A University. F. Networking, Collaboration, jugalbandi and fusion concert performing opportunities with International and National celebrity/group/bands. G. Participation of concert or promotion event and endorsement in public by celebrity religious head/Guru. H. Maintaining high profile and visibility in Media-Visual and Print media and Public functions. I. Titles and honors by leading and prominent sabhas and organizations, like foundation etc. J. Prominent and popular performing artist and student celebrity endorsement and support activities. K. Becoming a member of committees-selection and AIR audition etc. L. Writing and publishing articles in prestigious journals and dailies. M. Presenting unique program with potential of popularity and wide acclaim. N. Extraordinary Vidwath and skill in presentation. O. Play back singing-film music- most popular film music composer assignments. P. Maintaining attractive physical personality. Q. Maintaining connectivity with the established rasikas and popularity.

2. Fame: 2.1. Attaining and maintaining the popularity-stardom, celebrity status. 2.2. Attaining and achieving distinction, prominence, eminence, stature and large following through scholarship/higher Vidwath and performance, glorification, identity and image.
