Hope many rasikAs attend. Look forward to clips from the concert.

So, a hundred year tradition, could we say, of the Ari format?? :)

Pleased to learn that Sri. Aleppey Venkatesan is being recognized on this occasion. He is said to be the last disciple of ARI, to whom ARI gave his tambura. He is perhaps the only current torch bearer of ARI's tradition and he deserves lot more accolades. I believe that he is not given enough opportunities in the December season in Madras. Two years ago when I attended his free morning concert in Mylapore Fine Arts, there were hardly twenty people in the audience !. Adding insult to injury, the audience and the artist could see a long queue waiting for tickets for an evening concert by an young female artist.

In my opinion, AS A PERFORMER (as opposed to EXPERT IN what Poochi& Ariyakudi musically rendered in their concerts) the ONLY COMPETENT PLATFORM PERFORMER- I make a distinction between PERFORMERS & EXPERTS which is one of the CRUICIAL DIFFERENCES in my opinion (I was planning to discuss this among other aspects but decided not to because of the intolerances involved) today who is AUTHENTIC AS A PERFORMER IN THE ARIYAKUDI BANI IS DR. Palghat Ramaprasad who as we know is NOT BEING RECOGNISED ( in terms of concerts) PROPERLY. He is the grandson of the one & only Palghat Mani Iyer (who accompanied ARI in most of his concerts)& is SUPERB but obviously not a house hold word because of the IGNORANCE & FALSE PROPHETS who have succeeeded in QUESTIONING ARI even though they make their livelihood utilising the profound truths of the ARI BANI....Its sad that persons who just meaninglessly attack& criticise have prevailed......The only other person today who can AUTHORITATIVELY talk on this subject is Sri.T.N.Krishnan another GIANT who has accompanied every major artist who fortunately is going to be honoured RIGHTFULLY next year in Cleveland Festival WITH THE ARIYAKUDI Ramanuja Iyengar Memorial award........
Please do not misinterpret what I am writing. Sri Aleppy Venkatesan is in my opinion the most knowledgeable EXPERT ON OUR MUSIC not just ARI. VKV :!: ;)

dear cacm

with your meandering long sentences, with no punctuation marks and with a mix of UPPERCASE phrases and too many brackets , it is not clear what you are conveying.

Are you saying Alepey deserves the award not ?

And why to drag Palghat Ramaprasad into this thread and confuse ?

I find what Sri VKV saying to be clear. He is talking of ARI legacy-bearers and remembers PR and TNK and concludes by appreciating the award for AV. Where is the confusion? I wonder how many of us will be as clear and consistent as dr VKV when we are as senior.

Dear vichu1947, I WRITE THE WAY I WANT & YOUR JUDGEMENT ON MY STYLE IS MEANINGLESS DRIVEL. If you are not SMART ENOUGH thats your PROBLEM.
ALEPPY DESERVES ANY NUMBER OF AWARDS ANY ONE CAN THINK OF.
I CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR IGNORANCE.
I AM SAYING ARI'S STYLE TODAY IS BEST REPRESENTED BY PALGHAT RAMAPRASAD WHO I WANT BETTER RECOGNISED ON THE CONCERT CIRCUIT.

Dont waste your& my time trying to make me better. THIS is a free forum & you are not the "official" grammarian or style expert. VKV

dear cacm

thanks for taking my feedback positively. Now your post looks much better with multiple sentences, paragraph breaks , punctuation marks . It is much more readable and understandable.

Upper case sentences are still sticking out as a sore thumb, I guess that gets ironed out with time.

BTW , there was no grammar correction made by me. To make grammar correction, the passage has to be first comprehensible.

You have rightly said , it is a free forum . If I can also add, it is a public forum. Anything posted in public forum is subject to feedback / reviews/ appreciations / criticisms. One who posts should be aware of this before posting.

About my ignorance, you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine.

dear kvchellappa

I infer from your post that Mr/Mrs cacm is a senior citizen. How am I supposed to know the age of all member and give concessions based on age ? Perhaps such members can add a disclaimer at the end ?

Back to the main topic, the award function and lecture concert was fantastic. Sri Venkatesan has 2 budding students who accompanied him. The famous Chathur raga RTP brought back memories of ARI. Sri Venkatesan effortlessly switched between the 4 ragas during swara koraippu

Anyone attended watched it ?

Vichu,
After 'young thing 'rshankar's post, all the following posts are by those who have reached 'a certain age' beyond yours :)

cacm is none other than the respected VKV, and I'm afraid there is a fan club here for him--and why not? He's a treasure mine when it comes to CM. Not only that, he's a doer, and his service to CM cannot be forgotten easily :D

Regarding Sri vichu 1947's post:

Dear Sri Vichu1947,
My name is V.K.Viswanathan. I am a Mr as a matter of fact a Dr in Physics etc & I do not want any concessions based on age or any other reason. Since age has been raised I am 81 & UNLIKE many others in this forum I am willing to be public about my name & other relevent factors.
What do you mean by adding disclaimer at the end? Though you may u think you are writing clearly that sentence between two question marks makes no sense to me.

Dear Sri Viswanathan

pranaams. Good to know you.

I (too) am Viswanathan 68 yrs old, a retd scientist from ISRO.

Reg. your query on "Adding disclaimer" :- You might have noticed people adding a disclaimer like "Sent from Blackberry. Excuse the typos" Here the disclaimer is that since the person has constraints in typing using a small device, there can be errors in typing.

Similarly, if anyone has any constraints such as age, physical / mental constraints in typing / formulating sentences , such disclaimers perhaps can be added . That is what I meant.

Dear arasi
"and I'm afraid there is a fan club here for him--and why not?"" .
Sure, why not. Anyone can have a fan club. But I always feel that discussions should be objective and not subjective. Our likes and dislikes about a person should not cloud our judgement.

NASA & ISRO !! பேஷ், பேஷ் !

Thiruvalluvar appears to be addressing the listener, not the speaker! Thiruvalluvar appears to frown at going over non-essentials.
With my limited capacity for grasp, I found no difficulty nor any ambiguity in the post.
Dr VKV has not looked for any concession and needs none.
It was my take that he commands admiration and respect. That is not something that drops overnight, nor is it a function of age.

Let me recollect my memories. As a high school student I attended a week long function of Sriman ARI Avl 's 60th B'day at Sangeetha Mahal inside Thanjavur Palace arranged by eminent Advocates of Thanjavur S/Shri Krishnamachari, Ragavachari, Ganesa Iyer , Sribagh Gopalan and few others. All Vidwans MVI, SSI, Palladam Sanjeeva Rao, Thanjavur Laxminaryanan ,MMI and other musicians participated. Palladam jovially mentioned that he can not offer any currency notes to ARI instead will gift him with Sankarabharanam Note. This is just a recollection of my old memories I share with this forum.

Thanjavooran,
Thanks for sharing your memories on ARI's sixtieth birthday celebrations in Thanjai. Sixty was a ripe old age in those days!
The flute note was a sweet one.

Wonder if we can get some Chennai celebration memories, and of Mumbai too. Is MKR listening?

Thanks, Bala!
Though I don't see a byline, it was written by Sriram V. Look at Sangeetham.com at the end of the piece.

Standing behind ARI in the picture is S.V.Parthasarathy, vocalist and son of SSV. Am I right?
