Tambura Meditation

Post by Rsachi »

I have started a small experiment I call Tambura Meditation.

There are three tambura apps I found in Android = Google Play store.
1. Tanpura Droid-free
2. Yakshashruti (once you open it it has shrutibox or Tanpura options) - free
3. Bheema Tanpura Pro

I found the Bheema version at Rs 160/- a steal, for its options and sound quality.

I set up the software with E shruti, stereo, six strings:
.Sa.Pa.Pa Sa Sa.Sa
I sit comfortably, eyes closed in a quiet dark room, with my back straight and breathe slowly in and out, as I soak up the rich sound of the tambura.
For about ten minutes.

Try it and tell me what you think!

Dear all,
I have made short samples from the three Tanpura apps mentioned above, say A, B and C. The recording has been done in identical conditions and as 320kbps MP3. Please listen and tell me which one you like!
Use headphones or high quality speakers please!

I liked Yakshashruthi.

It has a 'continuous' feel.... i think the Droid speed is fast, as though the "strummer" is having an urgency. when u listen to option B, and play/sing with it, has a vintage touch 8-)

I liked your third sample. The first one had a rather hurried pa, with a pronounced strum. The second one was better, but the pa was not distinct enough, and the notes generally sounding "mixed up".. The third was very nice, unhurried, the right lengths for each note, with a much richer and more pleasant tone.
