Shi-bha Sangita Sabha organized carnatic vocal concert of Maharajapuram Sri S. Srinivasan at Villivakkam on 2nd December, 2006. The vocalist presented the Maharajapuram’s style, in his full-throated voice which at the same time was elegant with deep devotion and bhakthi bhava, right from the sparkling start of Neranammithi (Kana Varnam) in Ata Thalam to the concluding Bho Sambho, very well popularized by his late father Maharajapuram Santhanam.

In Shanmugapriya, the vocalist took up Siddhi Vinayakam set to Rupakam. This Dhikshitar Kriti invoked the blessings of the Deity at Thiruvarur. This was followed by Saint Thyagaraja’s Brochevarevare in Sriranjani. There was a steady flow of sangathis in the punch line Brochevarevare. Its exploding effect kept the audience glued to edge of their seats. Next item was in raga Mandari i.e., `Paraloha’ again of Saint Thyagaraja. The inherently vibrant voice of the vocalist gained all round applause for the neraval in `Dhinnaga ga ne Dhaivalohamani’. It emphasized that one should have no attachment for worldly things. The vocalist went on to sing in Hindolam, a kriti composed by Indira Natesan; Abhaya Varade set to Misra Chapu Thalam. Marajanani, composed by Krishanamacharyulu in Natakapriya was followed next. This is a kriti not very widely known but received rousing distinction from the audience, majority of whom became curious to know the raga; name. In Manirangu, the vocalist sang Jaya Jaya Padmanabha and the number instantly received appreciation and enthusiasm.

Ragam Thanam Pallavi in Kandajathi thriputa thalam was the main item. Maharajapuram Sri Srinivasan proved his proficiency in handling this part with his enchanting prayogas and the audiene thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. The vocal support was given by his son Maharajapuram Sri S. Ganesh. That this promising young talent is fast turning into a mature artiste, could be seen from the nodding heads among the audience, for every note from his mouth. He has his rapid-fire voice that of course judiciously synchronises with his father’s. Be they alapanas, neravals or kalpanaswaras, Sri Ganesh spares no effort in bringing out the best from him, to the delight of the audience.

Nagai Sri Muralidharan on violin was, as usual, truly impeccable and imparted grand touches. On Mridangam was Srimushnam Sri Raja Rao, who exhibited extraordinary power in lending percussion support for a lively start to the finish. The auditorium was well packed with audience who felt that they were taken to a different world for a couple of hours then.
