It is time for Sangita kalanidhi discussions. The Music Academy must be on the job already. let us discuss our recommendations. My list goes as follows :

1) V.V. Subramanyam
2) Neyveli santhana Gopalan
3) Sanjay Subramanyam

Bombay Jayshree/Priya Sisters/Ranjani Gayathri - will any of them be eligible for consideration? Ranjani Gayathri rejected Yuva Puraskar Award; so they are no more yuva but grown up.

Why don't we have one vocalist and instrumentalist for the title every year? This will enable quick coverage of artists. Afterall every leading musician of today is going to get the ' biridu' sooner or later.

I have made the same suggestion year after year that there must be two categories, one for vocal and another for instrumental, in order to cover all qualified artists within their life time, before t is too late. This has fallen on the deaf ears of the Music Academy. Many years after the passing away of one of the Alathur Brothers, the Academy accommodated Sikkil sisters together for the award. Perhaps the Academy could change their attitude and accept the present suggestion from this year onwards, let us hope.

My recommendation, for whatever it is worth, is for the senior vocalist OST this year.

I think every one is forgetting the most deserving person Is Vijaya Siva - this year or some time later definitely should be ahead of names like Bombay Jayashree,RaGa,Priya etc.Of course if the committee goes by extraneous reasons such as women to be preferred,then names like O S Tyagarajan and Vijaya Siva will take a back seat.
definitely Sanjay cannot be denied,has to happen in the next few years.
My list of deserving people:
O S Tyagarajan
Vijaya Siva
Suguna Vadachari
Sanjay Subramanyam
T M Krishna
Chitraveena RaviKiran
Some of the instrumentalists should be considered.Hence Academy should have one in Vocal and one in Instrumental category.
I know that this is only time pass for me.

Generally this award of Sangeethakalanidi brings in more awards.Money wise it is nothing much these days only a Lakh Rupees.An Indian Idol junior award is Rs five Lakhs and runners up is three Lakhs!

let's not connect the dots and read in between the lines.... Given sanjay's contribution, vidwat etc, sooner or later he would have gone. The artist boycotting has already created big distance with academy, so there were only remote chances... There are other reasons for boycott which we don't know yet (not that the reasons mentioned are not valid, they are very valid ones ofcourse..)

My congratulations to Vidvan Sanjay Subrahmayan on being chosen as this year's recipient of the 'Sangita Kalanidhi' title awarded by The Music Academy Madras.

A musician who fits the bill of being a true 'Kalanidhi'. In honouring Sanjay Subrahmanyan with the 'Sangita Kalanidhi' the award has really honoured itself. It is a cliche to say this, but is wholly true.
