A very happy Birthday to Smt Neela. The last time I saw her, back in December, she was struggling with a bad throat. I learned from one of her students that she has, over the years, struggled with major health problems.She refuses to be beaten. Long may her victory continue, and long may she bring us music.

Neela Mami is probably the only one I know of, who is so productively busy at her age. Whatever you approach her for, she always has a positive reply. She mentioned recently, "I have to attend at least to three programmes everyday"!! She conducts classes at home, by skype and also undertakes to conduct specialised workshops. Still she performs many concerts every month. She, without hesitation accepts out station concerts and programmes. Participates as chief guest, award ceremonies and so on. She also attends concerts of youngsters and senior artists. Mami was in the audience recently when Dr.Vedavalli was honoured by one organisation, which was followed by Dr.Vedavalli's concert. Mami was particular to get the lyrics and recording of one of the special songs that was sung on that day. She said she wanted to learn it. When once I asked her if she would come for a particular concert, she said in her characteristic straight way "There is nothing for me to learn from that and so I may not come"!! She keeps learning and practising new songs even today.

She is not only a role model for artists but also for all of us. I feel privileged to be having her acquaintance and blessing. I should mention that Sri. Ramgopal mama is no less- a man full of energy. A rock of strength. Still drives the car himself whenever necessary to drop or pick up mami in the many appointments that she keeps.

What a lovely function is going on! Effusive adoration of disciples, a wonderful speech by Sujatha Vijayaraghavan quoting from Thyagaraja to Shakespeare in describing the unique combination of "ever-learning" "ever-giving" "ever-creating" "ever-appreciating" personality of Neela Ramagopal. Neela Maami spoke inspiringly urging her students to strive always to give 100% to their music and live music 24x7. A number of organisations felicitated the doyen.

A full house of musicians and rasikas present giving their felicitation and love to this great lady.

PS Neela Maami spoke 100% in Kannada!
