A.Pallavi doubt in Gananathane (Saranga)
Could someone explain the line "Initheeyumo thani nayaka" in the anupallavi of Periyasami Thooran's Saranga kriti Gananathane? Pls find the entire anupallavi below for reference:
Inaiye illaa peruvazhvinai
Ini theeyumo thani nayaka (Gananathane)
thanks

Re: A.Pallavi doubt in Gananathane (Saranga)
I have always wondered about that and this is my take on the line in the anupallavi (please note that is ....tIyumOr....):
iNaiyE illA perumvAzhvinai inittIyumOr tani nAykA (gaNanAthanE...)
You (Oh gaNESa/gaNanAthanE) are a (Or) unique (tani) leader/god (nAyakA) who can make this great (perum) life (vAzhvinai) that is without (illA) compare (iNai) even sweeter (inittIyum)....
I hope experts such a s Arasi/Rajani/Punarvasu et al will correct me.

The line is interpreted differently here:
http://www.karnatik.com/c1306.shtml
M.S sings it as ... inittIyumOr ...

I saw that, but in none of the renditions that I have heard (including a very clear one by Smt. MSS), or lyrics that I have seen is it presented/sung as
iNaiyE illA perumvAzhvinai iNaindE aruL taruvAi appA
which is the basis for the interpretation in the karnatik.com site, which apparently is the way that Sri TVS sings it.....

In the Annamalai University publication of Isai Mani Malai and also in the more recent Shristi's Carnatica Pvt. publication of Tooran's songs, it is printed as ... inittIyumOr ..

Yes, I was aware of that...which is how I 'wrote' it out.Lakshman wrote:In the Annamalai University publication of Isai Mani Malai and also in the more recent Shristi's Carnatica Pvt. publication of Tooran's songs, it is printed as ... inittIyumOr ..

Re: A.Pallavi doubt in Gananathane (Saranga)
Thanks for the responses.
One more interpretation which occurs to the mind is by using "sandhi" of inidu + eeyum i.e. perum vazhvinai inidu eeyum Or tani nayaka i.e. the unique lord sweetly giving a great life. Of course in the Annamalai Univ publication if the "tt" in "inittiyum" is given clearly in the tamil script then this interpretation of mine will not hold.
Hope some more experts would also respond please. Thanks.

Nulls: I think that your interpretation is closer to the correct one.
Instead of
இனிது + ஈயும் as you have suggested,
if you use
இனித்து + ஈயும் + ஓர் = இனித்தீயுமோர் will make sense as "pleased to give" similar to
இனித்தமுடைய எடுத்தபொற்பாதமும் in Appar's Thirumurai 4.81.4.

Re: A.Pallavi doubt in Gananathane (Saranga)
Nulls: Yes. It is difficult and confusing to transliterate tamil/sanskrit words into English. I too had a problem of how to write in Tamil. Fellow forumites, Arasi, V K and others showed me the way. Use the website " http://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/tamil.html to type in tamil. Replace the word tamil with sanskrit/telugu etc for other languages. First compose in the note pad, then copy and paste where intended. Hope this helps.
