Ms. SOORYAGAYATHRI AT BHAKTHI SANGEETH UTSAV

Ms. Sooryagayathri, a ten year old girl born to a Mridangam player father - living in a remote village – Vadakara in North Kerala is really a gift of God and an amazing bundle of talents. In the Bhakthi Sangeeth Utsav organised by Carnatica and Sree Parthasarathy swami Sabha in Narada Gana Sabha, the on line video album of this charming young girl was formally released in which she has rendered Ganesa Panchakam and Hanuman Chalisa. As Sashikiran told while introducing the child, even established singers think twice before rendering any piece immortalised by MSS Amma, for it is always difficult to touch the zenith attained by the great MSS Amma. As we have mentioned in this forum itself many a time, her rendering is the Gold standard for many of the songs. After the formal inauguration, Sooryagayathri rendered the Hanuman Chalisa which was truly mesmerising. Sooryagyathri’s voice has fine mettle, easily traversing all the three octaves and is able to bring out the bhavam as portrayed by MSS. Without any reference, she presented the piece exactly as sung by MSS in the tune and pace rendered by the legendary MSS Amma. Without divine blessings, it is impossible to render with this amount of perfection at this tender age. Kuldip Pai, the upcoming singer cum composer has organised the recording of this young artiste. In her vocal rendition, he accompanied her on the Harmonium and the girl’s father accompanied on the Mridangam. Later I searched the you tube and saw the piece which was been visited by more than 45000 people and many have gone ga ga over the child’s rendition. Later, I had opportunity to inter act with the girl’s father and Kuldip Pai. The girl is continuing music with all commitment and devotion. The girl is learning music from Kozhicode four days in a week and the father takes the girl to Kozhicode which may be two-three hours journey from Vadakara. CRama, hugely talented kid. Hope she will learn music more and be used as a "show singer" less. For surely one of the greatest and commonest of mistakes is to put the golden goose into a circus.
