R.K Srikantan
Rudraptnam Ramakanth
Nagai Muralidharan
Umayalpuram Sivaraman
SreeSundarkumar
At Tatvaloka 4th December 2006
Lambodara--Kambodhi
Chandram Bhajamanasa-Asaveri
Vidulaku-Mayamalavagowlai
Amba-Dharmavati
Rama Ramana Narayana-Nagaswaravali
Enalu Ni-Thodi
Emani Pogadutura-Veeravasantam
Nijadasavarada-Kalyani
Thani Avarthanam
Katha Sravana Mado-Ritigowlai
One more Purarndara song in Nadanamakriya
Mangalam Kosalendraya-Madhyamavati
Pavamana-Saurashtram
WHAT a concert! At this age the voice ,the shruti, the control over alapana , sahityam and neraval and swaram--Simply amazing.
His son Rudrapatnam Ramakanth was a wonderful ally providing some great music in his own right. Nagai Muralidharan was an able support on the violin. And then on the mridangam we had the peerless Umayalpuram Sivaraman elevating the concert to celestial heights. His tani with Sree Sundarkumar was electrifying.
On the whole a simply mind boggling concert--perhaps the concert of the season?

Simply enchanting performance by Srikantan mama and all the accompanists. There were alapanas for Mayamalavagowla, Dharmavati, Nagaswaravali (sketch), Todi and Kalyani. Neravals in Kambhoji, Dharmavati, Todi and Kalyani. The Nagaswaravali kriti is of Mysore Vasudevachar and the Todi kriti by Purandaradasa.
We at Carnatica feel honoured by Srikantan mama's acceptance of our invitation. Every chance to hear him is a blessing. Our thanks to all the rasikas who turned up!

OST's concert was on Saturday, Dec. 2. Great performance with his usual zest and vigour. Highlight was the hour-long Saveri... majestic alapana followed by 'Durusuga' (Shyama Shastri). On Sunday evening, Alepey Venkatesan Sir's concert was another treat, following the release of the live concert recordings of Ariyakudi and Venkatesan sir himself. Highlights of the concert were Kedaragaula (Saraguna Palimpa), Saveri RTP, Hecharikaga (Yadukulakambhoji), etc. We have three more days of this festival... TNK mama is performing tonight, Rama Ravi mami tomorrow and the two Sugunas (Purushottaman & Varadachari) on Thursday. The series has produced wonderful music so far and we hope more of you will join us today, tomorrow and the day after!

Hope we can get recordings of these concerts (esp interested in RKS and Manakkal) fairly soon.ramanathan wrote:Yes, I am one of the organizers!
And a request: could you please keep the recordings as close as possible to the original concert, and not edit too much! I find most CD versions today to be too sanitized; the 'live' feel of tapes from yesteryears is missing, if you know what I mean. Include any speeches also, if you can. Thank you.

Honestly, what kind of a ridiculous review was that? He mentions only 3 pieces out of 12 that were sung. A high school kid with a thesaurus and zero knowledge of carnatic music can write that piece.
>> It was interesting to see contrasting styles between father and son Rama Kanth in the alapana pattern and swaraprasthara techniques. The recital ended on a serene note of two Purandaradasa items.
So what exactly was the contrast between father and son?
Were the two Purandradasa items so insignificant that as a reviewer you dont bother to name the raga or the composition?
Did SVK listen to only the Mayamalavagowla, todi and kalyani?
Does this idiot SVK even understand the basics of CM or journalism?

Just because the article is not damaging about the artists of the concert doesn't make it a good review. My point is that SVK's reviews hardly have any substance and are nothing more than an interplay of vocabulary and metaphors.
Chalanata, I dont want to sound rude, but since when do you make decisions about whats called for and what isn't on a public forum?

rasam,
i felt your reaction was a little out of proportion and commented on the same.
you will have to understand that using phrases like 'idiot' will only achieve the results opposite of what you are trying to achieve. and such phrases are quite uncivic in public forums.

The article mentioned above starts with the sentence: "It was an ebullient performance by R.K.Srikantan for Carnatica to prove that rigorous, disciplined sadhaka in the early years can defy age."meena wrote:sree RKS conc.-hindu friday review:
