Nadaanjali, a musical tribute to Dr. R K Srikantan held in Edison New Jersey on May 10th, 2015
Nadaanjali, a befitting musical tribute function in memory and honor of the Karnatak music legend Padma Bhushan, Sangeetha Kalanidhi, Dr. R K Srikantan was organized by Krishnaveni School of Karnatak Music headed by Smt. Vemuri Vijayalalitha, a disciple of Dr. Srikantan. The tribute which was held at Sree Krishna Vrundavana Temple Auditorium n Edison, New Jersey was well attended by music connoisseurs and ardent admirers of the doyen. .
The function which began with an invocation by the students of the music school was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. M. G. Prasad, a well known scholar and music connoisseur. After observing one minute silence in honor of Dr. R K Srikantan, an interesting and spell-binding documentary on his life and achievements was screened. This brought back poignant memories of the maestro.
The documentary was followed by a scintillating vocal concert by his illustrious son, Karnataka Kalashree, Vidwan Sri. Rudrapatnam S Ramakanth, ably supported on the violin by Sri. Mysore V. Srikanth and on the mridangam by Sri. T S Nandakumar.

Sri Ramakanth started the concert aptly, with the Thyagaraja Kriti "Guru leka" in Gowri manohari ragam. Next was another beautiful composition "Sujana jeevana" in Khamas ragam. This was followed by a rare Thyagaraja kriti "Samayamu yemarake" in Kalgada ragam. He took up "Sogasugaa" in Sriranjani with intricate Swara prasthara. The highlight of the concert was "Bhajare re chita" in Kalyani ragam with a beautiful alapana, neraval and crisp swara kalpana. He concluded with popular Devaranamas of Sri. Purandara Dasa some of which were tuned by Dr. Srikantan and took the audience down the memory lane, reliving the melody and depth of Dr. R K Srikantan's music. Sri Mysore Srikanth on the violin and Sri. Nandakumar on the mridangam gave excellent support to the main artist, making the concert a memorable experience for the audience who applauded the performance with a standing ovation.

Thank you for writing about the event!

Could you please share some details about the documentary that was screened, like when it was produced, who directed the documentary, is it available online for viewing?

I would like to know which devaranAma-s were performed by Sri Ramakanth - please mention them if you have that information.
