He was a great teacher in TVM Air and has got thousands of students through AIR and also personal tuitions. A fine human being too who did not chase awards or concert opportunities. Hence was not known outside Kerala. May his soul rest in peace.

Re: R Krishnaswamy passes away
My elder sisters (while our family was in Kerala during the 60's & 70's) were regular students of Sri RK through AIR music lessons from Trivandrum and our father ensured that the broadcast was listened to by all despite 'peak morning hours' such as 7.45 a.m. when the wards were preparing to leave for school/college. AIR modified the broadcast timings a few times only to roll back to morning hours as they saw a non-complaining small dedicated band the slot!!
'Voleti's AIR lessons from Vijayawada were also equally popular those times - thanks to my brother who would literally 'squeeze out the short wave relay' in our National Echo radio! I think the timings were different and so the benefits were immense.
Coming back to RK's lessons, the Pancharatna kritis, Navaavarana kritis, the Navagraha kritis, navaraatri kritis etc were taught during the very earlier years. Giants of compositions were handled and his way of teaching resembled a live session in a home tuition and the 'student' at the AIR studios would be asked to asked to repeat sangatis to enable the 'unseen disciples' get them right. Numerous kritis of Kerala composers apart from Swati Tirunal and the Trinity were taught.
During the later years, Shertalai Gopalan nair, S V S Narayanan, Neyyattinkara Vasudevan, Kamala kailasanathan etc also handled the lessons but RK's was distinct.
Lessons from AIR Trichur were handled by Pazhayannur Parameswaran during the initial years and later stabilised under Sri Managaad Natesan.
