Good job srkris. Now I see four pages of search results for https://www.google.com?q=site:rasikas.org/forums

So the trend is in the right direction!!
Four pages! That is for pikers!

A search for Harimau shows 25 pages!

I even have a T-shirt store:

http://www.redbubble.com/shop/harimau+t-shirts

As one T-shirt says: it is a Harimau thing; you won't understand!

:D

You are free to post your thoughts , if you post with your identity revealed and ready to face the consequences if the other party thinks what you have written in libel. When someone hides behind a pseudo name and throws mud at others, this can't be called free speech and this needs to strictly moderated if rasikas.org has to maintain its reputation. The way it is going now, it may go the sangeetham.com way
The tup-tup artist and his Vidhushaka claimed they were losing a Lakh of rupees a month and so decided to shut down the website.

The closure had nothing to do with its contents.

The contents of the website are for sale to the highest bidder. The minimum expected bid is supposed to run into millions of rupees so that the accumulated losses can be wiped out.

Harimau

After you mentioned the 25 pages and tshirt store , I did click the link and there it is. Wow.

Purely for academic interest I wanted to know what Harimau , as printed in the tshirt. Duh!

and here the link

https://www.wordnik.com/words/harimau

which says

"Tigers, or harimau as the Malays call them, abound, but live in the depths of the almost inaccessible jungle, and come forth only at rare intervals, except in the case of the man-eaters, who are usually ignominiously caught in pitfalls, very seldom affording true sport."

You are a tiger!In a positive sense .

I can see the google bot on the home page on who's online. So it must be working. 8-) Still see if it is getting into the threads.

There was some discussion about the facility to delete posts. One of the awkward situation is illustrated in this post -
http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic ... 60#p287160

The origianl post from where the quote is taken, has been edited out, leaving the quote and the comment as a sore thumb. I can neither delete it nor edit it. I hope moderators would find a solution for such situations.

I sent a mail immediately to Sri VG (thro the forum) soon after deleting what he found to be in bad taste.

I recommend that you click the [!] button, and report the post to the moderator, with a request that it be edited. Then it is in his hands.

(The joke, it seems to me, was about the attitudes of the rich, and not at all about the poor. The wealthy can afford to have fun poked at them)

Plus that other problem where someone can set off a forest fire and then promptly delete the fuel and run off and safely watch "Mt. Rasikas the active volcano" from a safe distance afforded by the computer screen. Rather than a post vanishing altogether, it is better to keep it with a --- as the text. Unpleasant as it may be to some, it will force people to behave if they know they can't fully erase their presence -- now here is an example of free speech but not "free escape" enforcing better behaviour. There is a difference between an honest mistake and trolling.

You know, of late I only see the issue of "free speech", which I prefer to define as "Say anything without consequences" being raised and argued when there is potential for trouble -- everything we do HAS consequences. The only other place I have seen the issue appearing is under a dictatorship... and there is a very real difference between the two.

Plus, like the last line of that Wired article I quoted somewhere up there, it makes you wonder just how many people behave because society doesn't let them "loose" and how many people behave out of real integrity.

Shankar, there are many forums that still use the forum format. I make no use of Twitter or facebook at all (at least for now, I am succeeding in avoiding them) and still I could fill more than a day with my participation in the forums to which I belong, which, apart from Rasikas, range from Indian culture and travel, through the Indian motor/driving scene, hifi, headphones, to technical subjects such as Linux, broadband, Android, etc. Some of those forums are international and huge. And have young members. The bbs/forum format is very, very far from dead.

rajeshnat, 20 good lines and 2 bad? I don't want to suggest that some sort of puritanical new regime, but editing out the truly offensive is, in my view, certainly to be desired. If the posters don't like it --- they go away.

I don't think that outbreaks of unpleasantness is anything new. I've had "conversations" on rasikas.org which, if I looked at them with a moderators' hat, I would say should have been deleted. Perhaps the other involved parties, in retrospect, might have felt the same! I hope I am less hot-headed now, but we are all human and I do not guarantee absence of ill-thought-out response.

Moderation is for keeping things moderate :D
Hello Nick , What are those other forums that you are active. I will catch you there . hush hush , tell me. ;)

Hmmm... Indiamike (culture/travel); Team-BHP (India cars, roads). Then some hifi forums, but I got fed up with audiophool nonsense.
