I've developed a great fascination with carnatic music and am trying to teach myself to sing carnatic music. Can someone please help me decipher the exact sequence of swaram from this magnificent rendition by MS Subbulakshmi? It begins at 16:00 into the song.
At the 16:00 minute mark she starts the kalpanasvara. The notes can be deciphered from the western equivalents of the Karnatak notes of Kiravani S R G M P D N S* (C D Eb F Ab B C*).
Mark! Welcome to the forum!
I think you've come to the right place: you'll find people to help you with any and all of your questions!
You say you're trying to teach yourself to sing - surely, it'll be easier if you found a teacher or guru to help guide this journey?

Thanks Lakshman, I was looking for the lyrics of the swaram. She starts by saying ga ri sa ni sa ni da but then it is too quick for me to decipher them completely!

Thanks rshankar! There is a club, http://web.mit.edu/mitswara/www/officers.html in my school but right now I'd like to learn as much on my own as possible before getting a teacher!
