The thing to appreciate about the youngsters today is that they are all taking heavy pieces to present and are striving for class-ism. It is indeed a good trend. Its up to the rasikas now to support these people in numbers especially the "ambala-Pattu" (not being sexist here merely borrowing a term that commonly used in carnatic music circles).
The so called "popular music" today, without mentioning names, has diluted the experience of listening to a classical concert. I really miss the december season of 1980s which was decked with personalities like TNS, KVN, MDR, SKR, DKJ, MLV, MS, DKP, lalgudi, MSG and the list goes on.. wah wat a set of names! sheer pleasure listening to every concert then
