Pavamaana / vaazhiya senthamizh
Outstanding mind blowing superb out of the world singing !
No I pad no book straight from the heart. No abhang no hindi bhajan No forgetting lyrics. pure bliss.
Atana abhogi alaap superb .
Thanigai valar was sung so melodiously we could feel he was putting his soul in to it.What an amazing rendition.
RTP for almost 50 minutes was the crown jewel.
All the songs after rtp was in tamizh and was so magical.
He did not disappoint Harimau sir ( I am his fan) and brought in tup tup in few places .
Varadarajan was wonderful so were Venkatesh and Rajaganesh through out the concert.
After a very unplanned mathematical melody less Abhishek Raghuram on Sunday , An ordinary uninterested concert by Hyderabad brothers ,
a mechanical concert with no high points by Sudha Raghunathan - singing in a severely strained voice, today Sanjay satisfied us to full!
A memorable concert to remember for life time.

Excellent concert by Sanjay. Varadarajan was superb.... Mridangist could have been better in terms of variety and lifting up the already nice concert.
1. varnam is by tiger varadAchAri
2. paralOka sAdhanamE had swaras at pallavi - some interesting patterns
3. Alapana of aTANa, Aboghi were very nice. The alternate landings in dhaivatam and panchamam during aTAnA were exquisite. Varada's returns were superb
4. Influence of Sri. Sethalapati Balu was seen in the viruttams, tamil kriti like taNigai vaLar sharavaNabhavA
5. Pallavi was a grand affair - R, T and P lasting 74 minutes, and tani another 15 mins. Ragam was explored beautifully in 4 stages. The darbAri kAnaDa swaras were exquisite.
6. sindhubhairavi song is by muthiah bhAgavatar
7. the khamAs padam is by ghanam krishnayyar
Minor issue: Some voice modulations that Sanjay tries and also executes could be avoided, as they do not seem very aesthetic. Apart from that - a wonderful concert

If the surati pasuram starts with the words "Unin mEyavAvinee" it is by Thirumazhisai Azhwar.
Let me try:
Corrections welcome pl

Matunga Special would be Tamil with a Palghat accent.kssr wrote:Seems heavily loaded in favour of tamizh. Matunga special !!!
Maybe that is why the reviewer couldn't decipher the words to a pasuram!

Is this the first concert of Sanjay, reviewed here, after his announcement of SK ?
Looks like Tamizh isai sangam concert ? Vazhiya senthamizh as mangalam reiterates my thinking ? Any special event to render only Tamil kritis ?

grsastrigal,
Miss your reviews of late...
As kssr says, sounds like a Matunga menu. But then, let's say a concert is filled with tyAgarAjA compositions, is it a T arAdhanA concert?
We have perhaps forgotten that there are endless numbers of tamizh songs in the carnatic cache worthy of singing.
Isn't it somewhat like asking why mOdakam is made today--is it ganESa's birthday?!
kunthalavarali,
Thanks for the lovely pAsuram. Just a few corrections, but since it will also help those who cannot read tamizh, I give the whole pAsuram here:
Unin mEya Avi nI, uRakkamODuNarchi nI
Anil mEya aindum ni! avaTRuL ninRa tUymai nI!
vAninODu maNNum ni! vaLangaDar payanum nI!
yAnum nIyadanRiyembirAnum nIyirAmanE!
This tirumazisaiyAzvAr's pAsuram would have been nectar to tyAgayyA of tiruvaiyARu

At least this review is earlier counting from SK announcement:
http://m.thehindu.com/news/national/tam ... 506057.ece
The reviewer teases Harimau here (she does not seem to agree about stridency);
"A combination of innovation and meticulous rendition, the concert was of a standard that every performer should aspire to achieve."

Good review of a good concert.
However, adverse comments of other artists at the end could have been avoided.
Long winding line of Pallavi indeed. I couldn't make out the meaning of the tamil word "sirpavadivai" சீர்பவடிவாய்.
Would appreciate a more knowledgeable person explain the meaning. Thanks.

It is sirpa (silpa in samskritham) vadivai - sirpa is an idol; vadivu is form. 'in the form of an idol'.

Thank you sri Chellappa for the quick response. சிற்ப வடிவாய் makes sense. Transliteration made it difficult for me. I mistakenly read it as "sIrpavadivAi" and was confused ! Thanks again.

Thanks for lyrics.Sir the reason I could not get the oonin meya as my son 6 years who I had taken was pestering me to go home .It was not any matunga or palghat tamizh concert .I am a pakka tanjorean. And why not tamil songs. How many of the younger generation understand telegu ?? Atleast we understand the meaning of songs and enjoy.
i dint not want to waste my time in writing list and comments about other artists who sang as I felt summary was enough.
BTW Trichur Brothers delivered a cracker of a concert for 3.45 hrs today .I will post separately

priyashekar,
That was a lovely review. Considering you were distracted by your lovely offspring, it's appreciated even more!

Looks like a tamizh heavy concert. What talam was the Pallavi in?

Going by the comments when Tamizh compositions preponderate, perhaps the Tamizh Isai movement at a time when mostly Telugu and a few Samskritham compositions were sung was in place.
