Nadasurabhi takes music to Schools

Event on Independence Day 15.8.2015

Under the new initiative to proactively take Carnatic music to school children, Nadasurabhi has been working with several schools in its neighbourhood. B.Mona High School which was one of the most receptive institutions, had trained nearly 30 children to sing a few classical songs. The group presentation of these songs by the children studying in B.Mona High School gave a bright start to the weekend proceedings.

I think they have already "performed" on our auspicious Independence Day. But I hope that the "performances" are just a means to an end, which is to learn Carnatic music. It sometimes saddens me to see children encouraged (read pushed) to perform on stages from a very young age. Most parents believe that their child is a child prodigy. As such children are overworked with marks and performance in exams. Why add one more load.

I hope the Nadasurabhi initiative teaches children that it is nice and enjoyable to sing and it is nice and enjoyable to learn to sing.
