Malladi Brothers gave a very good concert for over 3 hours (uninterrupted) at the Poona Sangeetha Sabha today, to a packed hall.
This was a BKS Iyengar Memorial Concert. They were supported excellently by Smt Charulata and the persussion team of Sri Ravishankar and Sri Harihara.

As can be seen in the list, they sang kritis/ragams that were trademarks of their guru Sri Nedunuri.

In fact, after singing Kharaharapriya. they commented that this ragam has been patented by two maha vidwans - one Sri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and the other their guru Sri Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, and that they used to sing this ragam for hours ,exploring every nook and corner.

Overall a very satisfying concert.

Thanks for the review from Pune. You don't have that many concerts there, but please do post reviews when they happen.

I see a tamizh song (PSivan's?). They are adding to their repertoire of tamizh ones, it seems.

Yes they announced it as hindustani kalavati. When they started singing it sounded like valachi, but it turned out to be something else.

Some more concerts coming up in Pune the next couple of months - Mudicondan Ramesh (Veena), Sikkil Gurucharan and then Anahita /Apoorva Ravindran .

Malladi duo is one team who sing kritis of almost all saints. It is the habit imbibed from their Guru gAru. Vijay Siva is another vidwan who tries to cover as much of gurUs.
I don't know how Pune welcomes Carnatic ,Music concerts ? Do you have proper sabhas to promote carnatic/Hindustani concerts ? Beyond the core Anushakthi nagar.chembur and matunga I don't know whether CM concerts are popular. When I was in Mumbai, Ghatkopar did have some concerts.
Though, Pune may have sizable Tamilians (south population), nice to see a concert attended and appreciated.

Yes I think so. They got quite a few chits as request, so i am guessing this must have been in one of them. In fact one man was so insensitive that he walked up to the stage right in the middle of a violin ragam being played and interrupted Smt Charulatha by giving her the chit!!

For carnatic music there is only one major sabha - Poona Sangeetha Sabha who have concerts almost every month. There are many for Hindustani though.

There have been a few good/popular concerts recently here - Abhishek Raghuram last year, Priya Sisters, Sanjay earlier this year, Sikkil Gurucharan next month.

There are lot of south Indians in Pune, but unfortunately not many carnatic concerts.

It seemed to me that most people were South Indians, maybe someone can correct me. Saw a few foreigners also.
And since this was a BKS Iyengar memorial concert, i guess there were many from the yoga institution also.
