The programme started at 10 00 hrs with 30 Rasikas Welcoming address by Dr. Sundar.
He mentioned that
Shri Vaidilingam belongs to a great Saivite family with Honors degree to his credit besides a good orator. He served as Professor in Dindugal college He and his brother Shri Kotilingam are known to him since 20 yrs as they are associating with Irai Pani Manram along with Sikkil Bhaskaran. The 100 th episode on Makkal TV is due next week. Shri Vaidilingam is getting associated with Ramalingar Pani manram too .

The programme started with Vinayakar sthuthi ' Porpadhangal Potri ' in Hamsadwani composed by himself.
Some of the interesting points are given below.

In Tholkappiyam dates back to 7000 yrs ,before Vyasa , though Grammar [ yappu] talks about sangeetha lakshanam .

My observation

The 2 hrs Lec Dem was very interesting and in fluent Tamil . Less lecture and more Demo. Prof is very knowledgeable. It was pleasing to enjoy Keerthana's voice with very able support by Sruthi sagar. Sruthi's random passages were good and it was a full concert. Guru Bharadwaj's perfomance was excellent. Corrections if any are most welcome.

The lec-dems of Sri Vaithlingam and his brother Sri Kotilingam are highly informative.

Their service to propagating Tevarams, Tiruppugazh, etc., is incomparable.

They are willing to teach anyone at any time and transmit the oral tradition of Tevaram singing.

What a pity that they are recognized only by very few of the sabhas in Chennai!

They fully deserve the Sangeetha Kala Acharya award of the Music Academy. Will they get it? That is the million-dollar question.

It is with immense satisfaction that I place on record the conferment of the title Sangeetha Lakshana Praveena on Sri M Vaithilingam and Sri M Kotilingam by Karnatik Music Forum yesterday, Nov 19, 2015 at Arkay Convention Center.

That a Standing Room Only crowd attended the function despite rain in parts of Chennai earlier in the afternoon shows that there is recognition by at least some segments of the music-loving community of the immense knowledge and contributions of the two brothers who received the awards.

The awards ceremony was followed by a wonderful concert by Sri Sabhesh Subramaniam. A single word in review is sufficient to describe the concert: Sabash!

Sri Sabhesh is a student of the incomparable Late Balamani Mami of Bombay who has produced several fine musicians. I don't know if he has sung professionally before this but he certainly can give a run for the money for several performing musicians.

Incidentally, he is the brother of Smt Bombay Jayasri.

Depending on what I take, my persona varies from a purring pussycat to a ferocious tiger to a sagacious Hobbes!

Since the floods caused interruptions to the Internet, I had seen no reason to take any of those potions!
