R nAda(vEda)valli for Nada Inbam, 7/Sep/2015

It was music that makes you reflect and savor it now and again - just about 2 hours or so. By RV, Sumitra, Sumathi in accompaniment with RKSK (v), KAP (m) & N Guruprasad (g). Didn't expect to make it as I was occupied and parivadini didn't have it in their schedule; but then made it just on time anyways :)

mOkshamu galadA (s), mAmava satatam, nIvAda nEgAna, krishnAnanda mukunda, mundu vEnaga (r), sri rAjagOpala (rnst), virutham ninRadhu endhai Uragathu in kEdaragowlai, kApi, ?, surati, Ahiri followed by kathitha samayEpi jayadEva ashtapadhi, kElanO hari tAlano and pavamAna

Believe kElanO was sung in surati. Online search yields results spread over kalyani, khamas, etc.

Ahiri was the highlight of a concert of highlights. Sumitra's articulation of the virutham covering ninRathu and irundhadhu and anRu piRandhilEn piRandhapin maRandhilEn made it ethereal beauty.

Knew you would be there: you had to be there!

Smt RV has countless ways of giving unique and wonderful concerts. In my inadequacy, I have only one way of saying, "it was a wonderful concert," but it was.

I felt like sitting on the banks of a river that flows smoothly and contemplating.the svarams she sang for mokshamu touching the mandhra dhaivatham was godly, her singing really meant the meaning of that kriti. The darbar alapanai was again like a walking of an elephant, slow and elegant.the neraval for the main by RV & Sumitra was again classicism personified every moment.I think I heard shanmukhapriyA and sindhubhairavi also in the virutham.KAP played excellently and his thani warranted a sabash from Guruprasad and claps from RV.What a concert it was !

There is always, without fail, some magic in her concerts which goes with but beyond the music. Yesterday's program was marked, for me, by the sense of deep inner peace that lasted even beyond its end.

It was not, though, one of those inner-peace feelings which can catch a person snoring. I don't think I even closed my eyes, and was consciously enjoying from beginning to end. That includes the thani. Arun Prakash and Guruprasad play together like brothers (it begins with the rhythms of their names matching!) and the thani was great. I cannot tell about any of the calculations, but the koraipu was, particularly delightful to listen to.

Smt RV celebrates her 80th birthday in November. I told my wife, "You know how you see Lloyds Rd packed with people for AIDMK events? That is how it will be on RV's birthday, but we will be queueing to wish her!"
