And in other news
It is reliably learnt that the tup-tup artist will not attempt a nadai Pallavi in hs SK concert at the Music Academy, sticking to a standard chatusra nadai as usual.
And K Gayathri Prasanna will repeat her performance from last year, choosing two different talams in two different nadais with two different eduppus.
And the Malladi Brothers will present a dignified concert with no dugu dugu or tup tup or whatever other gimmick the SK-designate comes up with to attract a lowlife audience.

harimau, advice to you is remain 'chup, chup'. Your like or dislike of an artist or branding of the audience is in low taste anyway.

Also the respectable Smt Neela Ramgopal has been requested by her fans to repeat the Bageshri pallavi that she sang sometime back, which was uploaded to Sangeethapriya. Or it can be in Dogeshri if one 'Lingams dasar' prefers it

Yes, Neela Ramgopal can sing any rAgA, known and unfamiliar with panache--because not only is she well-versed in them all, she still is a student at heart, learning new songs which were in hiding for a long time.
Incidentally, songs brought back into circulation, or even found and sung by Sanjay can now be found in the song lists of veterans like her and a whole lot of young aspirants.
In that, add one more asset to Sanjay's achievements...

I have a feeling that Harimau has some serious and extremely deep seated personal scores to settle with Sanjay, and until he meets Sanjay personally we have to bear with it. Is it not Harimau?
It is easy ! Go home bash him. Finish it once and for all rather than consistently stressing and sulking and fuming. It is you who may have to do and we cannot help you.

vENDATTA (if you care not) vendettA-vA?
Extreme reaction, is it not?

Because parAsakthi resides in all, praise be to her!
Did I say puli? Then, I should be addressing this to Sanjay?

iam with harimau.when sanjay was praised to stinkingly highlevel,as if he is an avaatar,as if he is the only person singing cm,nobody criticised the writer.infact people joined the writer to jingchug with him.persons who now admonish harimau should have written do not over praise any musician, to obcne ,ugly level.keep up it harimau.

Re: And in other news
Harimau does not need open encouragement, he will persist with his meaningless words with which he is in love; he must be thrilled in fact that it could generate so much discussion. If someone goes overboard in praise, the answer to it is not berating an artist who has no part in it; nor can it be labelling the audience of his concerts who are also not privy to these exchanges. Neither has any decorum or civility. To beat a person using his own admission of a past lapse can never be a measure fit for decent exchange of views. The background to this sordid episode is awarding SK to the artist. If that is faulty according to anyone, the finger should point at those who chose him for the award. The whole discussion was as though SS chose himself overlooking the merits of the present, past and dead greats; and as though those who congratulated him have committed an heinous crime. That part of the discussion went off regrettably. It is strange logic that if someone praises X unduly, others get a right to scold him with no holds barred.

Re: And in other news
@kvchellappa, Sir, name a time when the Sangita Kalanidhi award did not generate controversy. I have read many "interesting" stories in that big beautiful hardbound book that sits on the desks of the academy during music season, apart from the info I have read up here and a lot of the talk that goes around. Not to mention the detailed biographies of many musicians on the bookshelves. To know who got it, who did not get it and the things that have been done to get it and what happened when they got it...
As a rasika, I feel that award has in many ways caused much more trouble than what it is worth (it's lasting legacy to me as a rasika has been a set of beautiful potraits of many of the greatest musicians to have lived in the academy hallway for us to look at with one more added to the list each year and your name gets well known for posterity, and this is probably its biggest impact).
We all know there are enough meritorious and deserving artistes out there and there are never going to be enough awards for 'em all, and not everyone will be awarded in order or may be awarded at all for whatever reason -- unfair as it is. The only question is who and how acceptable are the circumstances and how the public reaction will be. There is already an SK 2016 thread ongoing and next year it may be revived to become the next edition of "the rasikas annual book of rage".
I think most of our hard feelings will die down if we stop seeing it is the Holy Grail of Carnatic Music -- all of us are in a way guilty of having inflated it into this big bubble that of late is only serving to disturb our peace. Especially the last time this topic was discussed, it has made me think twice about putting these awards on a pedestal -- it has become a breeding ground for both idolatory, stale jokes and hate rather than a celebration of a musician's success. Why do we take these things so seriously when we know that they will never overcome their inherent limitations. What if there were no awards at all? That would be fairer. Then only the music would rule.
So I'll tell you what. Emotionally I have long ago put some distance between myself & this award in particular. All the others put together wouldn't have done what this one managed to do in a few years. I am happy and content with congratulating a musician on their success.

Srikant,
Agreed. Much ado about not that big a deal.
If I got into the act, it is because 1) children (especially them) to seniors--I tend to congratulate them on their achieving anything, and that was the case here too, until the opposite of that reared its ugly head this year more vehemently. Sanjay is an inspiring vidvAn for me, and I had to express my positive stance on his singing. We live not in times when the gladiators were thrown in the arena for the wild beasts as treats. Not a whimper from the arena but cheering cries! No wonder, some of us had to go on and on to quell the ugly atacks. Their animosity made us more emotional, I'm sure...
The SK may mean a whole lot to some. It's supposed to be a prestigious award, and has been for a long time. Call it tradition? Any number of awards are out there to recognize artistes, this being the most noted one. But the ultimate?
What puzzles me is the way some rasikAs criticize the Academy strongly and yet can't rid themselves of its importance (in their mind) by somehow bringing in the 'hush, a concert at the Academy!' tone. To me, the Academy is great in some ways, and not in others, I'd say.
What are the reasons which motivated some to be utterly negative about any SK designate?
Harimau is a prime example of ferocious attack which comes from personal grievances, perhaps. The way it fueled others who might not even
have thought of such an attack, joined in. Others, like me who would have stopped merely with enthusiastic cheers got to work to try to deflect the unpleasantness.
Ah, another thing. The elite (truly so) among rasikAs, and wannabes, made a field day of showing their displeasure for the Academy's choosing a young, very popular musician (forgetting that he isn't among just the popular singers but has a place among serious vidvAns/vidUshis).
All the things true rasikAs (elite and otherwise) long for is for CM to reach more folks in the community, for it to flourish in the coming generations. Sanjay has already done his bit in that--making classical music reach those who might have stayed away from it before, and in training young musicians who promise to continue the tradition into the future...

Re: And in other news
@kunthalavarali, No preoccupation. But this joke's REALLY getting old, not unlike repetitive numbers seen in some concerts and someone outta point 'em out. Lame-Lame.
@kvchellappa, No need to delete anything anyone -- I think the discussion was constructive. The awards issue has an inherent limitation in that there are always fewer awards than deserving, alive musicians and everything we see that happens around these awards is a direct consequence of that. And until we find a solution for that, the politics, the controversies, the idolatory (ok, maybe not that), the book of rage, the offended, the left out and the <Never mind, will I stop already?> shall continue.
These awards are ultimately limited. The award of the rasikas -- where your music goes beyond you with those who love it, is the ultimate award.
So I honour your request. Let's not continue debating musicians and kalanidhis further. Stop Stop.
@arasi, And in other news today, a forum thread made some growling noises.... nah, I must have been hearing things. On a side note, two talams - ok. Two nadais -- oooh. Two eduppus -- Now how DO you do THAT? Lets discuss that on the RTP thread.
End End.
