3. antharanga bhakthi (R)- shadvidhamArgini - kOteeswara Iyer

8. ... udaya perumAle(thiruppugazh) - valaci??? - ???
9. nAda ??? - shuruTTi(mangalam)- ???

I was late for the concert ,but I was on dot time as the curtains rolled up. Shri TNS with his initial voice problem started quite well the hamsadhwani slokham. Also the sound was very feeble for the first half of the song . As the volume was adjusted his racy hamsadhwani swaram appeared quite good.

To me easily the best number was his Ananda bhairavi .Very moving tamil viruttam and a great alApanai. I wonder how Shri TNS can sing with such voice strength with his mouse closed , when most of the musicians dont even get that kind of voice strength even when their mouth is fully open . The krithi was a comfortable surprise to me , as I have never heard a neraval and swaram in this MD krithi. The neraval was in the lines "natvaa shree gurucaraNam hritvaa naama smaraNam " , bringing in all the charm of Anandhabhairavi with shri TNS giving interesting pidis with different lines in the neraval . The swarams in Anandabhairavi had both the konjal component and a racy swaram that was quite similiar to SSI's thyagarAja yOga vaibhavam.

The next rAga alApanai was detailed .With me not being too familiar with shadvidhamArgini rAga alApanai, I found it as the rAgam saraswathi. Well the krithi anthranga bhakthi was bit uninspiring . The next was a new krithi in bilahAri, again little dampening my attention in terms of musical experience , but certainly kept me glued as it was new.

The voice problems got rectified significantly after he took a rAga alApanai of tOdi. The first half alApanai was average but the second half was very good . Interesting closed mouth piDi in tOdi towards the end was excellent . The krithi possibly with the sabha in mind was delivered quite good till the neraval . Neraval was not that interesting as may be he took a very long phrase "viraivukoL mayoorapari mElvaru kumaraa sooraRu???(did not get the neraval line well)" .The average tOdi neraval was given a good finish in swaram ,with definite voice problem.

The next tukkada was the second best . It was a long tamil number in both shanmughapriya (very good) and behAg (good),each close to 5 minutes .Again an interesting krithi that I am hearing for the first time. The tillana was just ok with significant gimmicks and appeared close to mAnd. The last thiruppugazh was poor throughout , did not get even a single phrase excepting the last udaya perumAle with no sangati even repeated twice . I did not get the rAga too ,only at the end there was indication for a few seconds a characteristic gamakam of valaci???. Hope musicians stop using thiruppugazh as a count down timer for mangalam. The last shuruTTI mangalam was good.

Shri Durai played just good , tani was average . VAsan was more a rasika most of the time . MC , was very good in return , but in the tODi alApanai somewhere in the middle he played something that resembled a kAvadi chindu(did not like that detour...).Overall a typical TNS concert with always few new numbers (2 today)and a top class Anandabhairavi , also there was no thyagarAjar krithi.

viruttam "uruvAi varuvAi maruvAi " - anandhabhairavi - ??

ARuNagirinAthar.

The last anubooti from kandar anubooti. Very apt, IMO, since it concludes with the line "guruvAi varuvAi aRuLvAi guganE"... Please bless me by coming as my guru (addressing Muruga).

7. tillAnA - mAnd??? -HMB

Could it be the thillana in nirOshtA? If so, it is his composition "harikEsa dAsanuta"

Hi naaree

The Thillana was ofcourse the one in Niroshta.
The Tiruppugazh (Tenungu mukkanigal) was Malayamarutham and not Valaji as mentioned.
Aranaar Mudi meedu is possibly TNSs' mother composition.
The Mangalam (Mangalam mangalam mangalam) is a traditional mangalam sung in Harinama sankeerthanam.

Yes, I have heard MDR sing neraval at Nathwa Sri Guru charanam. I think KVN too though I'm not really sure about that.
