A soothing 'Kalavati'. Is the foreigner by his side his student? Picking up the nuances fairly well.

Just by way of information. Dr Balaji , an eminent Hindustani violinist, is the disciple of Dr N Rajam. Dr Balaji's father, the late Sri VK Venkataramanujam, who lived in Varanasi, was himself a wonderful violinist and had accompanied many stalwarts in Carnatic music, during their concerts in North Indian cities. Sri VKV was a Faculty in the Music College of Banaras Hindu University during the 60's, 70's and 80's. Dr Balaji's son Sri B Ananthakrishnan is also an accomplished violinist in Chennai music circuit.

Shyamala Rangarajan Madam,

Late Prof.V K Ramanujam was a violinist par excellence. He had given accompaniment to my father and guru SSRao-1958 National Program and in Delhi concerts.

This was from the same video that Nageswaran screened in the first rasikas meet. I urge Bluru forumites to see this at his new home , for a starter .
A brilliantly made movie , it is the story of how he gets overpowered by the Indian scheme of things in music .
A lovely moment in the film is when he narrates how he tried to break loose from the demanding rigours of mastering Wester Music , ( he has a pushy mother ) deliberately jams his hand in the door so the fingers would go useless / His fingers are operated upon and reconstructed . He then feels his fingers are more supple now and the lone tape he has of N Rajam tells him of a different possibility . And he comes to India to explore . And this forms the storyline for the movie . It is a brilliant attempt to see Indian Music through a Non Indians perspective . This includes the most well made video bit of the string quartet plus great home concerts.
And some great scenes from De Balajis kitchen , the rides through benares streets to get the daily quota of paans ....

Dear Varsha [Mankuthiyamma, Coolji and ???],
I am the one to be proud of associating with you for more than a decade.
The BG forumites are welcome to have a Video session about The Child prodigy of the French VIOLINIST GLLES APAP
and a Video session about the Journeys of RAM and another Video on Sufi music at my home on 17.10.2015 [Saturday]
from 5 PM.
All the above three documentaries were brilliant and most educative.
Forumites may confirm the participation in this thread.

Dear Sri Nageswaran

As discussed with you, I would prefer November 2015 (2nd half) if possible
October being a Navarathri month, may not be the ideal time as my wife and daughters will be extremely busy :)
