BMK (Jr), a youngster with a very promising voice strength started nicely with the popular kAnadA varnam , which was sketched quite well . The popular pathantharam of SSI was evident in the next deva deva, there was a very good neraval in the lines "jAtarUpa nibhacEla janmArcitam mamAkhila",with the percussion of sundar synchronizing very well which is a definite prerequiste . Swarams were very good too.

The nAdhaswara bhani continued again with the popular ravi chandrikaa number. varAli drop was welcome and did control the speed of his concert effectively .alApanai of varAli was nice , but the swarams were not gripping.

A fairly detailed malayamArutham alApana was nice . With a nice elucidation of lyrics in the karpaga manOhara , he chose a different contour of sAramati .Everybody associates sAramati with mOkshamu , but definitely the rAga is getting fairly less in the concert platform . I liked the way he sang this sAramati , spacing correctly giving the right chance to the mridangist to play more interlude and certainly he brought in the right emotional appeal too. The next vasantha was very good both in the sequence and the musical content , my first experience of hearing this krithi, certainly not sung as a conventional filler to the main(possibly MD enforced that).

I think The mOhanam is a rAga conventionally underplayed by SSI school . The rAga alApanai turned out to be good . The krithi was good , and I heard the neraval in nAnnu pAlimpa for the first time .The neraval was in the lines "vana janayana mOmulu joochuta" . But the swarams left a feeling of incompleteness with me . He could have certainly gone more...

The tani was good and the mridangam artist madurai sundar played very well.Satish kumar violin reply's were good . Did not like the varAli that much .Ghatam playing was minimal .

I had to leave before 10 minutes , someone else could complete the tukkadas. Overall a good concert.

a small correction, the line you have mentioned is "vanaja nayana" - lotus eyed and not "vana janayana".

thanks,
ravi kiran.
