Concerts on Mahanavami day

Post by Sivaramakrishnan »

Strictly speaking, Ayudhapooja implies keeping professional instruments / gadgets in pooja for a day only to be resumed the next day- Vijayadadasami. (Singers keep away from singing for a day on Mahanavami )

How come our musicians - vocalists & instrumentalists take up concert engagements on Mahanavami day? Can't the day be exclusively set apart for pooja/ prayers?

Pooja is only symbolic.Performance and using the instrument is real pooja. In India Showmanship of Pooja and rituals are given importance.
The musicians are always singing in praise of lord.

Then the artists shouldn't accept any remuneration for the concerts.

Post no.4

On remuneration

You expect musicians to live without any remuneration and give enjoyment to Rasikas. Most people get paid regularly and have stable life.
But you want musicians to sing free!
This is the case with most people unwilling to pay for expenses towards music concerts.

"In India Showmanship of Pooja and rituals are given importance" - really! 100% of the factories are closed for Aayudha Puja and that is showmanship at the cost of production. Interesting.

Would that mean that vocalists should shut up that day?

Yes, unless it is obligatory to sing as part of the pooja.

In earlier years, once Mahanavami puja was set, even reading printed words was avoided!

During puja one cannot shut up as namavali and mantras have to be chanted. Mounam will work when our puja is tantrik.
