Having followed the artist on youtube for many years right from her famous Petra Thai, I wanted to listen to Aishwarya live. The 2 hour concert was well worth the effort taken to travel from Anna Nagar to Mylapore.
She is an artist with a highly ingenious manodharmam. The Lalita and Hemavathi Ragas were rendered with a stamp of authority. She is fearless when trying out an astonishing range of brigas in the middle and higher octaves, with all the notes falling seamlessly in their respective swarasthanas at her bidding. While the audience were expecting Hiranmayim Lakshmim, Aishwarya surprised with a superbrendition of “Nannu Brova Lalita” which as far as I know is not sung by MSS.
Appropriately on Sarawathi Pooja day, Aishwarya rendered Veenabheri in true MS fashion with the lively
Chittaswarams. Dolayam and the small raga alapana which preceded it were soaked in the divine beauty of Khamas.
Hemavathi was presented in all its regal splendour with a substantive alapana and Dikshitar’s masterpiece Sri Kanthi-mathim was a treat for the ears .Petra Thai - audience request, Arar Aasai Padar, Aaraa Amudhe Arase and Ksheerabdhi Kanyakaku sparkled with the glow reminiscent of the diamond ear studs of MSS.
Sandeep on the violin did his guru Sri R K Shriram Kumar proud with his imaginative following and support. His raga essays complemented the main artist so well. Kishore Ramesh is a talent to watch out for. This youngster from the Guru Kaaraikudi Mani school gave exemplary support and his tani was brief but dazzling.
