If the sponsors see that they are spending money -- though it may e written off as advertising or as Corporate Social Responsibility, which is required under law -- and not getting enough eyeballs/footfalls, they may decide to spend their money elsewhere.

What if they decide to build schools, renovate temples, etc., instead of sponsoring concerts?

Then we will fall back to the subscription/ticket model of supporting concerts.
Building schools and renovation temples CSR is orthogonal to supporting artists in fine arts. They will continue to do the following if they are not getting enough footfalls.

1.They will invite 2 artists or 4 artists in a stage and try to bring in more crowd .

2.They will invite a drama artist and vocalist to perform together where there will be q and a.The Q and A will be videotaped and consistently updated in facebook.

3. They will have more and more concerts which exactly fit for the whims and fancies of jaya tv, raj tv , sun tv where the first rule of thumb is to put an ad every 20 minutes and the main tagline "Please donot go away we will return after a short commercial break" will be the inviolable. This tagline is the prime agenda, you will be lucky to get 2 neravals and RTP will get eradicated.

4. The mediocre artist who usually run sabhas or have lot of proximity with sabhas will take center stage with two upcoming artist who are very promising on each side and will give a concert .After 5 years those upcoming artist will be dumped and you have another set of artists coming from next gurukulam/sishyakulam

5.They will reduce the time from 3 ...2hours and nowadays you see even 45 minutes each for a concert. There will be slowly no difference in content between an accomplished and a L board musician.

I am awaiting for 20 minutes vocal concert . Then I will also enter the fray. Please support me Harimau - I can sing pretty Ok , I promise I will not sing an abhang.

I will come out of "retirement" and play the morsing for you --- so long as you only present slow-tempo, adi-talam, samam-eddupu pieces!

Right now, Bharat Sangeet Utsav has been doubling up on singers; viz., Nisha Rajagopal with Nabanitha ....., Amritha Murali with K Gayathri, etc. Next year they could try Ravikiran with Aruna Sayeeram, with a contest on who could render the Snake Dance Song better! The audience -- if any -- could be allowed to vote and decide the winner.

They could have a concert-debate featuring Sanjay and TMK on who is doing more to bring non-Brahmins into Carnatic Music.

They could have a Siblings Concert with the Madisar Mami and Saketharaman, with perhaps someone performing Arayar Sevai on the side.

There could be a villuppaattu by Sri Subbulakshmi Arumugam with a therukootthu by Koottu-p-pattarai on the side.

Maybe the whole BSU event will be a collaborative effort between ARTery and Carnatica-SPSS.

Fifteen minutes is all the amount of time anyone is allowed to be famous and that was before the Age of Youtube Immortality. Thus, like the Gong Show, you will be allowed to sing until somebody thinks it is enough and rings the gong!

BSU concerts have been quite enjoyable. KNS and Carnatica deserve praise and support. Armchair critics must be happy that such events are organised so that they have an occasion to rant.

Rajesh and Harimau, paired as you are on this thread, you are bringing Orwell back again, or is it Huxley?

I'm enjoying the BSU concerts from the comfort of home. Really thankful to the organizers for the VOD in YT.

@Harimau: Sri. Ravikiran with Smt. Aruna Sayeeram? எப்படி மனம் துணிந்ததோ?!

Why is the pairing of Ravikiran and Aruna Sairam so unimaginable? Both were students of the late Brindamma! And the "snake dance song" being a composition of Venkata Kavi would surely be in Ravikiran's (immensely vast) repertoire also.

One thing is clear though -- while the socialogical research of the panthera tigris rasikacias is one thing, the jokes are getting really old. My research into the family of panthera tigris rasikacias reveals the following subspecies at the least.

Panthera Tigris Sanjay detestabilis detractores
Panthera Tigris Abhanga allergica
Panthera Tigris Sangeetham Criticum Karnatakae
Panthera Tigris Karnatakae Musica Futurum cynismus
Panthera Tigris ante ex NRI Americae
Panthera Tigris antiqua ioci malum inflammatione
Panthera Tigris Politica trollosis
Panthera Tigris audiente analytica
Panthera Tigris Serpente Ophidiophobiae
Panthera Tigris Multiplicatio Personalitas
Panthera Tigris sabha caupona specialae
Panthera Tigris libertatem quaerenti ex mea leaenae ad Domicilium -- @arasi your lioness joke has inspired this one.
Panthera Tigris otiosum cerebri diabolus ex officina

Taking a page out of Arasi's book (a very tough task indeed), this will make the entire vyAghra kUTa (even the ones most committed to sociological research) take to their bathrooms and cry out/sing "irakkam varAmal pOnadenna kAraNam?"

I think now one will ask if these successive heavy inundating rains, unpredictable and endless, dampen the music scene this year. Although technically the 'season' has not started yet, still I wonder.
