AN URGENT APPEAL FOR DONATIONS

As all of you know the situation in Chennai is desperate and MANY including SENIOR and not so senior VIDWANS have been very severely AFFECTED. I do not wish to write the NAMES HERE BUT I know you will instantly recognise them and want to do your BEST to help out in this situation. I have give below an edited version of the APPEAL sent by Cleveland Sundaram : THANKS, VKV

V.V.SUNDARAM'S APPEAL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS:
This is a direct appeal for your support. The unprecedented rains and floods have devastated the city infrastructure and the lives of the citizens.
The music you enjoy, learn, train for, and perform is to some extent due to the impact of the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival. The Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival grew primarily due to the support and generosity of the art community – musicians and dancers. And members of this community have also been severely affected by the floods. From senior vidwans to junior most, some of them have lost everything and others have incurred unbearable losses.
The Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival is actively involved in providing some help to the affected artist community and also to the general public.

Please donate WHATEVER YOU CAN towards the relief operations. Some of the senior vidwans have also been affected. And they all need our support at this critical time.

Every dollar or rupee (or in any denomination) you give will go directly to the support of the people who are affected.

RIGHT NOW AS I UNDERSTAND IT THE EFFORTS HAVE BEEN TO HELP ANYONE ESPECIALLY MUSICIANS ETC WITH THEIR NEEDS. MANY OF THEM HAVE TOTALLY LOST THEIR HOMES, EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSES AND one was even airlifted by helicopter for example at a senior age etc. TOO MANY HORROR STORIES T0 RELATE. A LOAN FOR 15 LAKHS RUPEES from a gracious ANONYMOUS DONOR has been obtained and being used by VVS WITH VOLUNTEERS to HELP ANYONE WITH A NEED. RIGHT NOW THE CONCENTRATION IS TO HELP & SOON WE HOPE TO SYSTEMATISE THE PLANS TO HELP ON A MORE SUSTAINED BASIS. SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME & PLEASE WRITE YOUR IDEAS HERE. AS I am US BASED VVS IS THE ONE WHO HAS TO SET UP THINGS IN INDIA. RIGHT NOW HE IS RUNNING AROUND TRYING TO HELP PERSONS WHO REALLY NEED VERY FUNDAMENTAL ASSISTANCE. SOON WE HOPE TO FORMULATE A LONG RANGE PLAN. SO PL WAIT. I MYSELF WILL BE IN CHENNAI ON 11TH JAN & WILL BE ABLE TO CONCENTRATE ON THIS FULL TIME.
