A solid concert, about 2 hours 10 mins, to kick off the season for me. All the AlApanai's were class and the tani was short and good. Very Very sparse crowd to start with and about 80 - 100 max.

Ramanai bhajitthal is a standard post main song sung by almost all singers in a concert. I enjoy it.

Why do you say that? Hope it is not the "harimau" effect. The song has some wonderful lines including something like how can one appreciate the shade without having stood in the sun (some knowledgeable rasika can help out here). It is a concert favorite of several young musicians.sankark wrote:

I always think of this song as a "Pichaikkaran Paattu", meaning in some film there would have been this itinerant beggar who goes about the streets singing this song and attracts a small crowd of followers.sureshvv wrote:Why do you say that? I have to get to Papanasam Ashoka Ramani and ask him what movie featured this song.
This song was probably written when the craze for ragas Jonpuri and Maand was prevalent among Carnatic musicians.
There have been a few similar travesties. The most recent one I heard was "Kannan Madhura ithazai adainthai" sung to the exact tune of "Kandhan karunai puriyum vadivel". Again by Papanasam Sivan. I was thinking my life was complete without knowing the existence of this song but Gayathri Girish took it upon herself to inflict this song on me.
