I have been usually excited with both the nagai duos when they have provided violin accompaniment . FOr long I am chasing their violin duet concert and i had a chance to hear them for the first time
What I liked :

# I went 10 mins late and they were wrapping the nattai krithi. The first that I heard was haunting dwijAvanthi. They kept up the poignance and the serenity in dwijavanthi and their bowing was coordinated so well and the azhuttam of both was wonderful
# the Karu baru and the preceding mukhari sketch was wonderful , muralidharan usually plays with less bass tone and sriram generally going with more heavier bass indeed added charm to the krithi . Personally I think this is the first time I am hearing the karu bAru krithi in mukhari being played in violin.
# KApi main was well played . Nice share of jarus to start with the essence of kapi that gives an extra oomph effect . Muralidharan added bit more brigas to show more artistry of the vaadhyam. The inta sowkya was well done with a high doze of creativity which had intense briskness in swaras
# The shenjurutti was well done and the last thiruppugazh was in a difficult taalam and they did well
# Both the percussionist played with the right touches . Easwaran at times just playing with left and then going with a totally different pattern for the same sangathi was aesthetically near perfect . Radhakrishnan tappings were not very clearly heard but he did up in the concert. I was not fully present in their tani
# quite a bit of S kalynaraman sangathis in valachi bit rushed but showed their vidwat. Behag and brindavana saranga ragamaliga swaras contrast by sriram and muralidharan was well done.
What I did not like

# At times in alapana there is excessive short exchanges . I would have generally preferred an approach like what lalgudi siblings take where viji plays submain and krishnan plays main. In lathangi the exchanges were bit of short circuit on the overall aesthetics as there was too much of short medlay rotation.
# They could have in general built a more well rounded alapana , sangathis were just not enough to give a better raga swaroopam
# In latangi muralidharan complained and changed his mike and slightly jacked up the volume of his and mrudangam a bit . Anyway being a big sabha with lot of seats i went back but felt there was a slightly high volume for muralidharan -easwaran duo.Radhakrishnan volume was not in proportion.
# Concert start was at 06:30 pm . It was a ticketed concert . MFAC gives 9 to 9:30 pm as the finish time . But Nagai muralidharan looking at the watch from 08:20 + and winding the concert at 08:40 pm was not giving a comfortable feeling . They have vidwath and artistry it was left to my imagination than rather their imagination. What was the point in rushing the valaci RTP so quickly as though there is another artist who is waiting for a concert to perform next.The night was open ended and they could have gone more.
Overall a very good concert to excellent for 2 hours and 10 mins.
