Otherwise how would you hear Janani Nata jana palini (Sankarabharanam, MDR) as the main item in the song list?
What a composition!
Comes with a chock full o "Ni"s and as Forrest Gump might say, you never know what the swara sthana of the next Ni is going to be. And the way Amrutha presented the song with utmost fidelity, it was a joy all the way through keeping one perched on the edge of the seat.
And the Subbaraya Sastry kriti Emani Ne in Mukhari as submain? An ornate alapana studded with glides and demonstrating such powerful breath control. The haunting chittaswaram was boldly presented (some of it in mandra sthayee IIRC).
Concert started with Sri Jalandara in Gambeera Nattai which had some firework kalpana swaras which Arjun Ganesh on the Mrdangam got into supporting with gusto. K.J.Dileep in the violin provided great melodic support,

Loved the raga malika virutham followed by the brisk Sendil valar velavane in Kamas after the main and, Vara Naradha, Tyagaraja krithi in Vijayashree after the submain which blended and rounded the whole concert into a perfect one.
The stage chemistry between Anirudh and Arjun was a treat to watch as well

Time and again when I hear Amrutha, am really impressed with the perfect swarasthaanam of each swaram in every ragam. I cannot pretend that I really know everything about particular swarams for each ragam. But just by the habit of listening, you get the feel that the voice is getting into the perfect slot in a casting. No approximations or "swalpa adjust maadi" kind of singing. Good.
No wonder about MDR main, her guru being his ardent fan. If you can pull it off, nothing like that. But if you grind a Hariyum Haranum ondrey, giving meanings and intricacies and so on, we start feeling fidgety.

Interesting line in the article says something like "for her composition is king". In my mind especially the "dhaathu" aspect.
She brings out the beauty of the construction of the kriti like no one else. I still remember her "maathanga mukha" from a couple years back. No one sings the kriti like that.
