Anahita & Apoorva at NGS Mini

Post by sureshvv »

I was able to attend two of their concerts at the same venue just a few days apart. I am not able
to remember the accompanists at the moment but I think they included:

Thirumarugal Dinesh Kumar (Violin)
N.C.Bharadwaj (Mrdangam)

Song list on 13-12
-------------------------

<missed initial>
1. Padmavathy Ramanam, Poorvikalyani, OVK
2. Abhayambikaya, Sahana, MD
3. Nee muddu momu jupavey, Jaganmohini(?), T
4. Bhairavi, Chetulasri, T
5. Thani
6. Varai parivodu, Behag, Chitraveena Ravikiran

Observations
------------------

1. Fantastic ability to sing in a slow kalapramanam. Sure to blow your mind. The other concert featured "Ramanatham Bhajeham" as main and was presented in its full majesty.
2. Nice coordination and buildups in neraval and swaras.
3. Sure to rise to the top.

In the pantuvarali kriti, they sang it as "kumara guruguha vihitham" as opposed to the more common "kumara guruguha mahitham". I suspect that they have the correct version. Can someone throw any light on this?

Both versions are in vogue. There is no mistake in either, it's learnt.

Google search provides both results. Actually it is "vidhitam" not "vihitham" as I had noted earlier.

DKJ, KVN, TNS (and hence NSG) sing it as "mahitham", meaning worshipped.
viditham - approx means "perceived" http://spokensanskrit.de/index.php?scri ... rection=AU

The former makes much more sense to me as a direct reference; although the latter can carry its own significance.
