I like his music. Full of bhava and sowkhyam. To me he is equivalent to a male version of late Suguna Purushottaman amma.

His voice to me overlaps a lot with TVS , he takes unconventional main ragas , but ideas are brilliant.

Is chennai giving him atleast one chance for this lovely musician in this 2015 season???

Rasikas who attended his concert in Ranjani Fine Arts told me that it was the best monthly concert of the year. I missed that one. I have however heard him live in another concert at Indiranagar. Very Impressive. Solid traditional flawless voice.

Very impressive concert.
Dileep Kumar puts his heart and soul into the performance.
Mathur Srinidhi was extremely good both in following and his individual violin playing. Very good bowing technique, quick in grasping the vocalist's sangathis and good understanding the characteristics of the ragas.
BC Manjunath has developed new techniques after being extensively exposed to international music. He has also learnt to soften the playing while following soft patches of singing. Narayanamurthy, as usual is a dependable quality performer.
Kambodhi, naturally was the highlight and best. Very elaborately rendered.
Good attendance too.

Someone wrote "Kazhudaikki thriyuma Karpoora vasanai" and that had a rather heated debate.

Actually it is very apt in this thread. There are many karpoorams outside of Chennai who are not showcased in Chennai Sabhas. that too after proliferation of sabhas in the city as compared to 5 / 6 major one some 20 years ago. Still the chennai organisers do not invite good and deserving artists to chennai.

Musicians are indeed karpoorams !

Veenai Balachander lamented once in the Music Academy. "He said there is an unassuming musician in Vijayawada mostly spending his time in the AIR studios. Get him to chennai and make him sing more. You will be treated with some genuinely fabulous music". The musician whom he was referring to was Sri Voleti Venkateswarulu who indeed was popular but did not perform enough in the Chennai circles.

The quality of the music will improve only when the music lovers start listening to good music than just attending in hoardes the concerts of popular musicians

2 or 3 years he was VR Dileep was invited by Krishna gana sabha for an afternoon concert that was the only one that year. I put leave and went to hear his concert (ra ra rajeevalochana in mohanam as main). After that I am not sure if he again came to chennai. The lobby for many brilliant musicians from kerala just dont exist any more in chennai - in 2000 to 2006 there used to be some of them getting these rare artists. I surely miss this artist in general after hearing him once and downloading few from sangeethapriya - strong voice and kalpanaswaras were brilliant.

In an optimistic note, let us hope that he gets opportunities in the coming years, just like Sreevalsan menon and Shertallai, in Chennai. Also I feel that the season is not the best time for new comers to enter. Spoilt by choice, they get grossly neglected. Better to appear during the monthly programmes and become somewhat known before entering the season.

Even among well known artists in Chennai itself, hardly anyone gets great attention, except the top half a dozen artists. Amritha Murali and Nisha rajagopal sing in mini halls. We have no one else to blame but ourselves, the rasika community.

Here you go wrong again. Why should the musicians lobby or have a secretary to lobby.

Good musicians should be recognised and invited by the Organisers and the music listeners (i wouldnt dare say lovers) should take efforts to appreciate good music.

Ambikapuram Sivaraman (a disciple of C S Krishna Iyer) is another wonderful musician. try and listen to at least the youtube recordings, which are available in plenty. Chaste music. BEAUTIFUL !!!
