A concert to remember for long time... sahana keerthana was rare one to me... lovely neraval as always in begada... vachaspathi alapana was out of th world to say the least... V.V.Ravi was always there to support and played some excellent returns... ananthakrishnan played so nicely, and was always part of the song.... kannakku swarams in vachaspati was lovely and enjoyable...

AIR recorded the concert, looking forward to hearing vachaspathi again....

In Neela Mami's concerts one looks for musical values.

And you find enduring values.

Age takes its toll on people. So, her voice gets thin in the upper register. But there is never an apaswaram.

Mami's repertoire is really astonishingly large. It is a pity that we don't get to hear -- and record for posterity -- music such as hers.

And composer "Spencer" R Venugopal was there too. People like Sri Kalidas and Sri Venugopal attending this concert says more about Neela Mami's music than any words you and I can write here. By the way, Sri Venugopal had a great friendship with Sri N M Narayanan, the music critic, who guided Neela Mami along her musical journey.

Music such as this requires a certain level of rasikatvam. If one doesn't have that, he would probably be extremely happy with those musicians who are popular today.

I bet it was a wonderful concert.

Last year, her concert, given in spite of ill health ---she could hardly sing, but didn't let that little detail stop her--- was as much a lesson for life as a concert. I was happy to be able to tell her that she had thus inspired me.

I could only stay for one song. She was looking very healthy, and seemed to be in strong voice.

Fifty is actually a pretty good audience number for a season concert, isn't it? Apart from Harimau's Social-Studies artists.

There are few other krithis like Sri Janakatanaye and Sarievvare. Even Maa Janaki praises only Janaki.

Ah yes. Sri Janaka Tanaye in raga Kalakanti. I haven't heard it in almost a decade!

I happened to attend the later half of the concert. Neela mami is pure joy for the connoisseur. there is a certain depth in that music that comes only with age no matter how gifted the person is.
