Kalyanapuram Aravind @ PSS 29th Dec

Post by sangeethadasan »

This season's first concert of KA.

His way of structuring the concert is something which he deserves due credits for. He brings in that viruviruppu element right from item no. 1
The concert brightly began with Telisi Rama Chintana To Namamu - Swarams at Rama yani Brahma mulaku Peru. These days youngsters take less risk to attempt sarva laghu swarams in a ragam like Purna chandrika. But, Aravind made a bold attempt to deliver swaras for that ragam. He completely made justice to it. Though he sang just 4 rounds of swarams, I felt that he conveyed through those rounds, what is there in that particular ragam. Then I was suprised to hear a rare number in Devamanohari - Kulabirudunu Brochu Kommu. These days its just seen in the text books. The famous DKJ used to sing it and of course Aravind's illustrious Guru Sri Madurai TN Seshagopalan in his earlier days used to sing this krithi often. A sub central piece that he handled that day was Sarasangi. Another rare repertoire - Manavi Chekkonavayya. After Ramakrishnan Murthy, I see Aravind building a rare repertoire on the concert stage. Neraval swaras were very proportionately packed and rendered. Then he sang Ramabhadra Rara of Bhadrachala Ramadasu in Ananda Bhairavi after a 50 - 60 seconds of rich rakthi phrases of AB. He chose Meenakshi Memudam for the main item that day. I was totally impressed by the Alapana that he rendered. Greatly contemplated phrases, at the same time continuous phrases devoid of much of kaarvai. These aspects of the alapana built the concert to a very great height. Neraval swaras were negotiated at an unusual place - Veena Gana dashagamaka kriye. Beautifully, he rendered a koraippu and ended with a neat porutham. Then he sang a virutham and ended the concert with charanamule nammiti in kapi.

An artist to certainly listen to. I've been telling this for quite sometime now. Am Seeing a lot of positive graph from this youngster.
