From the virutham in Kedaram and the opening song itself, it was apparent that her voice was in fine form in spite of the concluding music season and that we were in for a wonderful treat. Elaborate neraval at Naaraayaṇa Naamamulanu Paaraayaṇa Monarinchuchu Ee Jagatini Vinnavaarike Jayamu Jayamu Jayamani underscored her attention to convey the message delivered by Saint Tyagaraja in a wholesome manner. The few rounds of cracker swaras made the concert vibrant and energetic.
The Bhairavi alapana was very detailed along the characteristic pidis of the ragam with judicious use of janta and jarus, flashy sangathis and meditative phrases all in right proportion to bring out the aesthetic beauty of Bhairavi at its best and the swaras at Syama Krishna sahodari was very imaginative. Before the song, she presented a sloka from Rajarajeswari Ashtakam. Her voice was so felicitous that she could reach mel dha in the swaras. The entire song took 40 minutes.
Mohanam alapana was also elaborate for about 10 minutes and I immensely welcomed Mohanarama for Kapali has been over done in this season. The alapana had the right pace with stop over at important junctures and imaginative sancharas around key swaras. She did neraval at Guri Tappaka Mai Marachi Sevinchiri and elaborate swaras in wo kalams with an attractive koraippu made it very enjoyable. The entire song took 30 minutes.
After the thani she asked whether she could sing an RTP or some kritis. I was sitting in the second row and I seized the opportunity and shouted for RTP. For it was 8.30 PM, and she could go for an RTP of 30 minutes. Some others shouted for songs. I am so happy that she chose to present an RTP in Dharmavathy. People have reservations about Dharmavathy. It is one of the 72 melakartas- not untouchable by any standard and I have not heard Dharmavathy even in the last season. The raga alapana was done for 5 minutes and the pallavi was in dwi nadai- chatusram and khandam. All the essential requirements of a pallavi including trikalm was precisely executed. RM swaras were in Vasanthi, Varamu and Behag. It should be appreciated that the pallavi was not rushed through and it was presented with full sincerity. The entire RTP took 35 minutes. The concert went on for three hours plus and GV has presented one sub main, two main songs and an RTP. Wow. What more do you want?
There was good crowd for this concert. That defines her popularity and sincerity in which she presents each concert. The accompanists played their role excellently and contributed in making this concert a memorable one for long time.
