Post by sureshvv »

Accompanists:

M.Rajeev
K.U.Jayachandra Rao
Anirudh Athreaya (k)

Song list:

1. Era napai (v), Todi
2, Na manavini, Chakravakam, Garbapurivasa, n @ kamaniya mrdu bhasha, kausthuba mani bhoosha
3. Chitrambari, Siva raja gowri, Suddhananda Bharathi tuned by NSG
4. Sri valli devasenapathe, Natabhairavi, Sivan
5. Vagadeeswari, Paramatmudi velige, n @ gaganaanila, T
6. Viruttam (puzhuvai pirakkilum), Bhairavi, Sahana, Bhimplas
7. Eppadi paadinaro, Bhimplas

Comments:

1. Thematic series by Charsur with 4 unique melakarta ragas chosen for each of the 18 different programs
2. Sriranjani was quite chatty. In additon to listing the ragas she had chosen, she provided additional background
3. Chakravakam kriti was an example of "Moorthy chinnadhu keerthi perisu" since it provided a great neraval line
4. Suddhananda Bharthi was an "unsung hero" (pun intended?) as he has also composed in all 72 melakarta ragas.
5. Took a pause after commencing neraval for the Vagadeeswari kriti, explained the import of the lines (as the pancha bhutas and our senses are just a manifestation of the Brahman)
6. Mentioned that this was the last kriti composed by Thyagaraja (incorrect?)
7. In any case, it set the table for an out of the world neraval
8. Outstanding concert for the choice of songs and perfect execution makes you like putty for the viruttams

I have listened to her live once, but watched a few of her concerts on Youtube. She is simply excellence-in-the-making! Amazing singing of consistently high quality. I find her music very much unlike her dad's. Wonder how this is possible!

It is not. What exactly is unlike her dad?

Eh? I think she often sounds like NSG of the 90s with her superb imagination and carefree singing laden with brighas.

In some ways, she is even more carefree. Not so worried about a slip here or there on a more worthy pursuit.
