Ramakrishnan Murthy for BGS @ Sivagami Petachi Auditorium, 25/12/2015

Post by sankark »

M Rajeev violin, J Vaidynathan mridangam, V Suresh ghatam

saranu saranu . ? . benakanE (http://sahityam.net/wiki/Sharanu_benakane) - ? - Adi - PD. Didn't sound like bilahari or gaulai. Believe this is the one Amritha Murali also sang in MFAC
ninnuvinA marigaladA - rItigowlai - Adi - SS. rn@shyAma krshna nutE, s@pallavi. superb alapanai and nereval.
cEtah sri bAlakrshnam - dwijAvanti - rUpakam - MD
nAdOpAsanA - bEgadA - Adi - T (rns@tantri laya swara, grand tani). voice exhibited tiredness in nereval. Perhaps too much singing this season.
RTV (rEvathi bhavAnuja sri krshna mAmpAhi sadA) - rEvathi - t triputai? - sung in rEvati, aTanA, nAgaswarAli, kAnadA, surati. I am calling this a viruttam, albeit one liner, rather than pallavi. ofcourse special virutham because he also sang swarams in those ragas. landed on rEvati for the "rEvathi bhavAnuja" while the rest was sung in those 5 rAgams. seamless transition between these 2 in viruttam & swarams both. the last set of swaras he descended to rEvati from surati in lightning fast changes between the rAgams. brief for about 25 mins.
thUmani mAdathu (thiruppAvai) sung as viruttam in hamIrkalyani? & kApi
kongalarndha malarkkurundham (thirumangai Azhwar's periyathirumozhi) in rAgamAlikai. the rAgams were as in the MS immortalized sri rangam Unjal song I believe.

Didn't disappoint, and expectations were pretty high :) Hope he takes care of the voice and continues to enthrall us for a long time to come ahead. Percussion - what to say about the veterans!

Ramana Balachandar was in the audience.

Introducing the name of the rAga in the sAhitya of the pallavi by referring to kRSNa as the brother of Revati's husband? - likely Sri R.K.Sriram Kumar's creation.
From the Sanskrit dictionary online I could find meanings for bhava as (Revati's) life, or world, or God that made contextual sense. I also ran into this:http://www.srichinmoylibrary.com/gim-121 interesting story

I think the pallavi should be rEvati dhavAnuja and not bhavAnuja, right?
dhava = husband, as in mAdhava - husband of mA (lakshmi)....

much simpler explanation :!: I thought it could have been dhava but bhava was chosen for poetic effect - just going off of the sAhitya reported in the review.
